Revisit our 2024 interview with Johnny Fisher, the ‘Romford Bull’

Dave Allen scored a devastating knockout of Johnny Fisher on Saturday night, leaving no doubt after their controversial first clash.

In December, Fisher survived a shock knockdown in round five to win a widely-disputed decision against his friend, staying unbeaten in the process.

But criticism of the scoring led Fisher, 26, to take an immediate rematch with his friend, 33, in a bid to put things right. And so the pair traded Saudi Arabia, the scene of their first showdown, for London’s Copper Box Arena on Saturday.

There, Allen again dropped Fisher in round five, putting the “Romford Bull” down twice in fact. The second knockdown came on the bell, courtesy of a vicious left hook, as Fisher faceplanted while the towel came in.

Fisher vs Allen 2 LIVE: George Liddard def. Aaron Sutton

Eddie Hearn: “Credit to Aaron Sutton, but the shot selection, the punch picking was perfect [from Liddard].

“He’s not a prospect anymore, he’s a championship fighter. At that age, you tend to slow them down a bit, but at the same time, he’s going through the levels really nicely.

“You almost want to let them go. You’ve got to remember his age. I want to say ‘kid’, he’s a young man.

“When was the last time Billericay had a middleweight champion? A British champion?”

Liddard: “Do you know what, coming into this fight, I needed a new knockout – because I’ve seen that [George] Davey one about 10 times [in promo] during this camp.

“Got about three highlight-reel knockouts in that one! The geezer just kept getting back up! But all credit to him, he’s been a gent all week.

“He didn’t want to stay on the ground, you’ve got to nail him to it. Respect to his team for calling it off.”

Round five

Oh, a gnarly uppercut from Liddard, really jolting back the head of Sutton!

And there it is!!

Liddard puts down Sutton AGAIN, with a right hook this time, and as Sutton looks to his corner while on his knees... they throw in the towel. The right call!

That might well set up Liddard for a domestic dust-up with Conway, who won the British middleweight belt in the previous bout...

Round four

Sutton gets a bit closer in this round, while Liddard is seemingly in no rush to get his opponent out of there. He’ll trust that the finish will come.

Liddard is largely working behind the jab, pushing back Sutton now. He smiles as Sutton fires off shots in a clinch.

The boxers separate and Sutton lands a left hook and long right uppercut. Nice work.

A cross connects for Sutton now. Another uppercut, but Liddard times a left hook around it.

Round two

One-two and a left body hook by Liddard. Sutton’s face is so red already.

Good head movement and timing from Liddard to set up a cross. Now a right hook from Liddard, curled around Sutton’s guard.

But Sutton fires back and smiles at the Billericay boxer.

He’s not smiling for long!! Liddard puts down Sutton again! It’s the same shot as before: the left hook.

Ninety seconds left in the round, and Liddard is all over Sutton...

Liddard is happy to eat a few shots to land some, which is fine on a night like this, but not necessarily going forward, of course.

Sutton makes it to the bell.

Round one

OH! In the first minute, Liddard DROPS Sutton with a left hook!

Sutton is quickly back up, but did he get up too quickly?

Will Liddard push hard for the finish now? He’s not rushing it, but he is landing stern jabs – finding a good middle ground in terms of pressure.

However, Sutton has thrown a few nice shots of his own, including a clean cross here.

More good output from Sutton, but he’s visibly troubling Liddard less than his opponent is troubling him.

Sutton is out first, enjoying his ring walk, singing along to his music. The Bristol boxer, 27, is 19-1 (3 KOs).

Now here comes Essex fighter Liddard, just 22 years old with an 11-0 (6 KOs) record.

Fisher vs Allen 2 LIVE: Kieron Conway vs Gerome Warburton

Round four

Conway hurts Warburton with a body shot! He’s varying his output now, going from body to head, mixing in uppercuts and hooks.

Warburton is breathing heavily! He nearly takes a knee in his own corner but stays up, and Conway obliges by adding a barrage of body hooks!

The towel comes in, and it’s all over!!

Warburton is tearful in the ring. A fine showing from him, though.

Round two

Warburton corners Conway, who wings a few shots to try to get the Welshman off him.

Tighter offence by Conway now, as Warburton tries to lean on him. Uppercuts and hooks land on the Breadmaker.

Conway connects with a spiteful left hook, then a rear uppercut. Warburton steps forward with a cross.

Warburton is sporting some damage around his right eye. This is already a gruelling contest!

Strong end to the round by Conway.

Fisher vs Allen 2 LIVE: Kieron Conway vs Gerome Warburton

Round one

The middleweights are fighting at close range from the off. Warburton is landing some good southpaw crosses already.

Now he jabs before adding a right hook and stepping off to that side.

Conway with a strong rear uppercut, but Warburton has been much the more active boxer so far. He’s already reddened the left side of Conway’s face.

But Conway digs to the body well before slinging a one-two upstairs. Warburton returns fire with his own flurry.

Hard right hook by Conway at the end of the round.
