Revisit our 2024 interview with Johnny Fisher, the ‘Romford Bull’

Dave Allen scored a devastating knockout of Johnny Fisher on Saturday night, leaving no doubt after their controversial first clash.

In December, Fisher survived a shock knockdown in round five to win a widely-disputed decision against his friend, staying unbeaten in the process.

But criticism of the scoring led Fisher, 26, to take an immediate rematch with his friend, 33, in a bid to put things right. And so the pair traded Saudi Arabia, the scene of their first showdown, for London’s Copper Box Arena on Saturday.

There, Allen again dropped Fisher in round five, putting the “Romford Bull” down twice in fact. The second knockdown came on the bell, courtesy of a vicious left hook, as Fisher faceplanted while the towel came in.

Re-live Fisher vs Allen and see the undercard results below.

Fisher vs Allen 2 LIVE: Kieron Conway vs Gerome Warburton

We stay in the middleweight division, where Kieron Conway and Gerome Warburton clash over the vacant British title.

Welsh boxer Warburton (brilliantly nicknamed the “Breadmaker” after the bread brand), is 29 years old with a 15-1 record.

Just 2 KOs to his name, however, while Conway, also 29, is 22-3-1 (6 KOs).

Warburton stands southpaw, while Conway fights orthodox.

Fisher vs Allen 2 LIVE: Jimmy Sains vs Gideon Onyenani

Round 10

Final frame! Onyenani comes forward; Sains skips to his left, before he’s tied up by his opponent.

Sains puts Onyenani off balance with a cross. Onyenani marches forward regardless, and Sains again skips around the ring – perhaps content to just avoid anything silly at this point.

Final bell sounds.

Jimmy Sains def. Gideon Onyenani via unanimous decision (100-90, 100-91, 98-92)

Sains is without a KO win for the first time, but he’s still unbeaten and will learn from those extra rounds. He also picks up the Southern Area middleweight strap.

Round nine

Penultimate round. Sains looks to be pushing a bit harder for the stoppage now.

There’s another timeout now, as the ref warns Onyenani for holding, it seems.

Sains lands a heavy left hook at close range after shrugging Onyenani off him slightly, but his opponent took that really well!

Round seven

Another good round for Sains. At this point, you have to ask whether he’ll maintain that 100 per cent knockout rate; but also whether it’d serve him better to bank all 10 rounds.

Fisher vs Allen 2 LIVE: Jimmy Sains vs Gideon Onyenani

Round five

Sains with a one-two, but only the jab lands; the cross is slightly out of range.

Oh! He times the next cross much better, and Onyenani looks unsteady on his feet for a brief moment... He’s undeterred, though, marching down Sains and looking to regain some respect.

Clean cross by Onyenani in fact, squeezed through the guard of Sains.

Clubbing right hook to the body by Sains, but soon thereafter, both men receive a STERN warning from the ref about leading with their heads.

Back under way, and Sains lands a few hard left hooks – two to the body and one upstairs.

Round three

Onyenani closes range more neatly this time and lands back-to-back crosses, with Sains trapped in the corner.

Both men throw hooks at the same time, but Sains’s seems to land more cleanly.

Good one-two from Sains now. Onyenani with a left hook at close range, before the middleweights tie up.

One-two and a body hook by Sains. Nice. He blocks an overhand late in the round.

Fisher vs Allen 2 LIVE: Jimmy Sains vs Gideon Onyenani

Round one

Ten rounds scheduled here. Will we need them? Sains’s record suggests not.

Sains switches stances early on; he’s standing orthodox at the moment, as is Onyenani. Piston jab by Sains, then a right cross that is slightly overshot.

Onyenani leaps in with a right hook, but Sains blocks the bulk of it. Decent jab from Onyenani now. Sains with some solid jabs and a hook of his own.

You know, Sains is already marked up a bit around his nose. I’m not sure whether that came from a punch or a clash of heads. It seems the latter.

Fisher vs Allen 2 LIVE: Don’t underestimate ‘Romford Bull’

It is easy to be fooled by Johnny Fisher.

His social media videos are a promoter's dream, regularly reaching enormous audiences by showcasing his winning personality, penchant for Chinese takeaways and internet famous father ‘Big John’. But behind it all is a conscientious athlete.

The former factor is a major reason why the “Romford Bull” has a legion of loyal fans; the latter explains why the boxing world has its eye on the 26-year-old.

As a fitness writer, it was the second subject that caught my attention...

Don’t underestimate Johnny Fisher – the detail-oriented boxer behind the viral vids

Fisher and dad ‘Big John’ boast a huge combined social media following thanks to jokey skits and their passion for Chinese takeaways. But strip it all back and you will find a conscientious boxer who leaves no stone unturned in his quest for better performance
