Brighton and Hove Albion’s super-subs stunned Premier League champions Liverpool as the Seagulls kept their faint hopes of a European spot alive with a thrilling 3-2 win on Monday night.

Conor Bradley celebrated his new Liverpool contract by setting up Harvey Elliott’s opening goal inside ten minutes, but Brighton responded well and deservedly levelled when Yasin Ayari finished off a fine move.

Liverpool were ahead again moments before half time as Dominik Szoboszlai's cross from the angle snuck over the head of Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

After the break, Mohamed Salah missed a glorious chance to equal the record for Premier League goal involvements in a single season as he turned wide from just six yards after being set up by Cody Gakpo.

Kaoru Mitoma came off the bench to equalise again after Alisson had saved from Danny Welbeck, with the winger controlling a rising ball to finish the rebound.

And another substitute, Jack Hinshelwood, also played his part to score the winning goal two minutes after his introduction as Brighton moved up to eighth place in the table.

HALF TIME! Brighton 1-2 Liverpool

Szoboszlai’s reaction rather told us that he did not mean that ‘shot’.

HALF TIME! Brighton 1-2 Liverpool

Brighton had more possession and shots than Liverpool but it’s the champions who lead.

Brighton had 11 shots in the first half - the most Liverpool have faced in a first half for nine years, according to Sky.

GOAL! Brighton 1-2 Liverpool (SZOBOSZLAI 45')

LIVERPOOL RETAKE THE LEAD JUST BEFORE HALF TIME!

What a strange goal this was! Liverpool took the free kick short, with Szoboszlai receiving the one-two. From a tight angle, Szoboszlai whips a dipping shot/cross (?) over Verbruggen and into the far corner.

Szoboszlai holds his arms up! Not sure how much of that he meant.

Brighton 1-1 Liverpool

44 mins: Chance! Brighton were queueing up as the ball fell to Welbeck and then Gruda in the box. Gruda does take the shot on, but it takes a deflection and sits up well for Alisson.

Brighton 1-1 Liverpool

42 mins: Gakpo skips over a challenge and it looks like danger for Brighton, but Salah shoots straight at Estupiñán.

Tsimikas puts his corner straight at Verbruggen.

Brighton 1-1 Liverpool

38 mins: Szoboszlai bends a cross towards the back post but Webster does well to head away with Salah lurking.

It’s been an open half and I would not rule out another goal before half time.

Brighton 1-1 Liverpool

35 mins: Another good chance for Brighton but Adingra’s shot is blocked after Gruda’s run forward. Estupinan then fires straight at Alisson.

It’s end to end, and Salah is able to enter the box. But he is closed down and loses the ball trying to beat his man.

GOAL! Brighton 1-1 Liverpool (AYARI 32'

Brighton are level! Well that was coming! Lovely move. Welbeck knocks it back to Gurda, who plays it first time to find Ayari’s run from deep. The midfielder finishes into the corner to level it up!
