Match Preview: Man City vs Tottenham on 19/2/2022

Man City host Tottenham in the late kick-off on a busy Saturday in the Premier League.

There were boos last time out for Spurs after defeat to Wolves, and Antonio Conte has been furious at the coverage and reaction to his interview with the Italian media, where he bemoaned the transfer situation after January, despite spending big to sign Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, both from Juventus.

Spurs meet a City side in fine form after their demolition of Sporting in the Champions League this week, to all but secure their place in the quarter-finals following the one-sided first leg. Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling all enter this game in fine form and pose a huge threat to Spurs as they bid to keep alive hopes of a top-four finish.

The task at hand has been simplified by City’s dominance in possession though, which could aid Conte’s ability to drill his side this week on the training ground in hope of at least a performance to promote confidence down the straight as Harry Kane considers his future this summer with just two years remaining on his contract.

Premier League 3pm kick offs

There are six Premier League game kicking off at 3pm with the results having implications all over the table. At the top Liverpool can cut the gap on league leaders, Manchester City, to six points before the champions face Tottenham in today’s late kick off. To do that though they’ll have to defeat Dean Smith’s Norwich who are stuck in a relegation battle and won’t make things easy for the Reds.

Third placed Chelsea can draw away from the chasing pack and avoid being dragged into a fight for the top four spots. Victory away at Crystal Palace would see Thomas Tuchel’s men open a seven-point cushion over Manchester United who currently sit fourth.

It’s a big day for Arsenal as well. They could move ahead of West Ham in fifth place with a win over Brentford and would just be one-point behind Man Utd with two games in hand putting them in an almost perfect position to finish in a Champions League place.

Elsewhere Watford and Burnley are searching for points, against Aston Villa and Brighton respectively, as they look to avoid the drop. Both sides are currently in the relegation zone and three points today would go a long way to moving them closer to the teams above them in the table.

Finally, there is clash between Southampton and Everton at St. Marys. The Saints are sitting pretty in 10th and will have thoughts of pushing for a place in Europe next year, but Everton need to win. Three points would shoot them up to 14th and give them an eight-point gap over the drop zone. Anything less and they could be facing a relegation fight in the closing stages of the season.
