Jansen rifled past Mary Earps in the 90th minute in Utrecht after Lieke Martens’ contentious first-half opener, which would likely have been ruled out had VAR been in operation, was cancelled out by Alessia Russo’s 64th-minute finish.
Both teams hit the woodwork late in the first half, Rachel Daly for the visitors and Linda Beerensteyn for the hosts.
Netherlands goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar then made an excellent save to deny Lauren Hemp before Russo brought things level, but it was Jansen who had the final say on what proved a disappointing occasion for Wiegman in the battle between her current and former employers, both of whom she has guided to Euros glory and a World Cup final.
The result - only a third loss for England under Wiegman - leaves both the Lionesses and Andries Jonker’s Netherlands on three points in Group A1. Follow all the reaction from Netherlands vs England below and get the latest football odds and tips here.
78’ - Netherlands 1-1 England
Pelova replaced by Kaptein as the Dutch turn to their bench. Kaptein is just 18 and winning her fourth cap. Lynn Wilms is also on as Andries Jonker looks to switch the approach.
74’ - Netherlands 1-1 England
Lineth Beerensteyn takes on two with pace and power and cuts in on her right foot, but with Pelova screaming for the ball outside her she opts to shoot - and it’s weak, easily saved. Pelova furious.
Moments later a slower, more patient build-up ends in Martens having a side-footed effort on target, but it’s saved by Earps.
Here’s a view of that Russo equaliser:
70’ - Netherlands 1-1 England
Zelem splits the midfield with a good pass from deep and England counter with three on two; Stanway eventually gets the shot away but slips as she does so and it’s a fairly routine save.
Jackie Groenen needs some treatment to what looks like a hamstring complaint initially, but she seems set to return to the pitch.
66’ - Netherlands 1-1 England
Earps is called into action to save low to her left now as Netherlands get back on the offensive - fine stop, right against the post.
England have been excellent in the second half - they don’t want to sit off now that they are back on terms.
GOAL! 63’ - Netherlands 1-1 England
And there’s the leveller!
Alessia Russo has hardly had a look-in for most of tonight but she gets a yard of space here and hooks the ball in brilliantly.
All that came from Chloe Kelly though, moving infield from the right and playing a lovely reverse pass for Toone, who eventually found Russo - it’s 1-1.
62’ - Netherlands 1-0 England
Hemp this time causing all sorts of problems down the right, beating two and clipping a cross in - but as Toone and Kelly wait in the middle, Van Domselaar gets a touch on the ball and it deflects off Van de Donk and just wide.
The Dutch No10 immediately gives it away outside her own box again just after and Russo’s strike is deflected behind, amid apologies from Van de Donk.
England keeping their hosts entirely pinned in over the last ten minutes or so but they still trail by a goal.
58’ - Netherlands 1-0 England
Wonder save!! Had to be 1-1 but Van Domselaar has made an unbelievable stop to deny Hemp!
Kelly does well down the right, beats her marker and crosses to the far post - Hemp is there sliding in, four yards out...and Van Domselaar spreads herself to make a fantastic reaction stop.
What a chance for the Lionesses to level. Hemp needs some treatment after colliding with the keeper in making that save.
54’ - Netherlands 1-0 England
Half a chance for the Lionesses as Netherlands appeal that the ref is in the way - Hemp coming in at the far post meets Bronze’s cross, but she can’t get enough on the effort and it’s blocked away inside the six yard box.
Beerensteyn races away on the counter down the left channel again but the offside flag does go up this time, even as she beats Earps and hits the post.
50’ - Netherlands 1-0 England
England trying to find a higher gear in this second half, a little more intensity to their play.
Nothing in the way of penalty box chances yet but they are having a higher starting position and more players looking to get forward earlier in build-up action.
Hemp down the left and Kelly down the right are trying to stretch play in particular.
