Liverpool are out of the Champions League after Paris Saint-Germain overturned a first-leg defeat and held their nerve to win on penalties at Anfield.

The Reds suffered their first major blow under Arne Slot as Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones saw their efforts saved by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and PSG scored all of theirs.

Luis Enrique’s team won 1-0 on the night as Ousmane Dembele cancelled out Harvey Elliott’s late winner in the Parc des Princes last week.

Dembele levelled the tie after just 11 minutes and, despite a bright start from Liverpool, it gave PSG the momentum to dominate the first half.

Liverpool were the better team after the break but could not make the most of their superiority and PSG survived long spells of pressure to reach extra time.

And Liverpool are facing a defensive injury crisis before Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle after Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate were forced off.

Follow live reaction from a dramatic night in the Champions League below

Liverpool 0-1 PSG (1-1 Agg)

70min: Trent misses a tackle, lands awkwardly, and spins into the advertising hoardings.

He looks intrinsically uncomfortable as he drags himself back onto the pitch to receive treatment.

It was one of those landings that makes you wince when you see the slow-motion replay, which does not bode well for the player.

66min: Another penalty shout for Liverpool as Salah is tripped at the corner of the box, but the referee is again having none of it.

Replays seem to show a clumsy tackle from Mendes, but the contact looks to be outside the box and, as such, the VAR cannot intervene.

PSG make the first sub as Barcola is replaced by Doue.

65min: Donnarumma goes down injured and receives treatment briefly before spritely hopping back to his feet to continue.

He gets whole-hearted boos from the Liverpool support when he takes his next touch of the ball - they clearly suspect a bit of timewasting.

63min: Another block to deny Liverpool!

Donnarumma clears a corner which falls to Salah and his shot is a near-certain goal before Kvaratskhelia stretches to keep it out.

Half an hour to play now - Liverpool need to take one of these chances soon.

60min: Vitinha is down receiving treatment after knocking heads with Salah - he looks to have split an eyebrow.

He is all patched up and free to continue, though.

57min: Another Szoboszlai shot, another smart block, this time from Pacho.

A corner follows, which Van Dijk heads goalward only to be denied by Donnarumma.

All Liverpool the last few minutes.

56min: It appears Darwin Nunez is being readied to come on as the camera pans to him receiving instructions from a coach in the dugout.

54min: Szoboslai has it in the back of the net after a chaotic sequence but the flag is up for offside.

The assistant referee let that play run for close to a minute before raising his flag.

Liverpool seem newly reinvigorated alongside the support. The momentum has swung like a pendulum - its all the hosts now.

50min: We are yet to have a clear cut chance in the second half, but PSG are certainly looking the more lively side.

Vitinha exemplifies that with a mazy dribble through the middle of the pitch to set PSG on an attack which ultimately comes to nought, but the potential is clear.

Presume it is part of the gameplan tonight but it is noticeable that Ibrahima Konate has run the ball out from the back quite a few times. Quite well, too. It always used to be Joel Matip who was the Liverpool defender who would surge forward in possession.
