OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Shoreditch is a great part of London to base yourself, and not only if you're here on business (though it is extremely handy for the offices of the nearby City of London, and as such does a lot of corporate trade). Shoreditch comes alive at night and it's not a very long stagger back to the hotel from one of the district's many bars and restaurants. You're walking distance from Brick Lane and Spitalfields and plentiful bus routes, and just a five-minute walk from Old St tube and Shoreditch High St Overground stations, so you can get just about anywhere in London very easily.

By car: the hotel is just over 4 hours from Manchester and less than 3 hours from Bristol. Parking costs £25 per day.

By train: Old Street tube station is 3 minutes' walk away; Liverpool Street is a 5-minute taxi ride. Book trains to London.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

This Hoxton was and is the prototype for the hotel chain's trademark cool comfort and style, but its location means it's very much the biggest party venue of their three London hotels, with an extremely busy bar most nights of the week and a DJ at the weekends.

THE FACILITIES

Service is low-key and relaxed but always attentive, while the facilities include the lobby bar and diner, another restaurant on the top floor and The Apartment - a slick set of meeting rooms and private dining spaces.

  • Bar
  • Restaurant
  • Courtyard
  • Free bicycles
  • Pet-friendly
  • Free Wi-Fi

BED AND BATH

The hotel's guest rooms are spread over six floors: as with the other Hoxtons, they all have the same amenities, and there's not a huge amount to choose between room sizes. Bathrooms are good sizes, with walk-in showers - mostly black tiled, with the Hoxton's signature Blank toiletries.

Room types: Shoebox, Cosy, Roomy, Biggy, Concept

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilites, TV, radio, mini fridge, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

As with the other Hoxtons, there's a clear choice when it comes to food - the fancier Mexican Maya restaurant on the top floor or the comforting and relaxed Hoxton Grill on the ground floor, modelled on an American diner and serving steaks and cheeseburgers, with chickens and ribs to share. The lobby's coffee bar transforms into a bar in the evening, and DJs join the action on weekends.

Hoxton Grill: American diner, comfort food. All-day menu, open daily.

Maya: rooftop restuarant, Mexican cuisine. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
