OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The pretty colour-block townhouses of Nyhavn are one of Copenhagen's most famous sights - and down at their easternmost end, where the pedestrianised path alongside the canal joins the harbour, is 71 Nyhavn. As Copenhagen hotel locations go, the combination of scenic setting and city-centre convenience put this one up there with the best. The many good places to eat and drink nearby include, across the bridge, the street food stalls of Broensgadekøkken and upscale burgers of Noma offshoot POPL.

By plane: there are direct flights to Copenhagen from London (1 hour 45 mins), Manchester (1 hour 50 mins) and Edinburgh (1 hour 45 mins). The hotel is around a 25-minute drive from the airport. Book flights to Copenhagen.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The two linked warehouses still retain much of their historic character, with thick timbers of Pomeranian pine a recurring theme throughout. The contemporary design makes a good showing too, though, and the hotel has an impressive collection of artworks from members of the avant-garde COBRA movement, including Asger Jorn and Karel Appel.

THE FACILITIES

Although there's no on-site gym, guests get access to the fitness facilities at the Phoenix hotel, a ten-minute walk away. The reception desk sells sightseeing tickets and can arrange bike or car hire or book you a babysitter. Laundry service is available, and there's a PC in the lobby for guests to use.
