OVERVIEW

Handsome interiors and a cool location in the bohemian Latin Quarter are two of the big draws at this design-led four-star hotel, part of the home-grown Brøchner Hotels family. Add in good in-house restaurants, a well-stocked bar and thoughtful extras (like the free nightly wine hour) and it's not surprising it's a very popular choice.

OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The hotel is in the Latin Quarter, a district that's central (with good transport links nearby) but slightly off the beaten track. Turn right out of the front door and you come to busy main roads; head left and it's all quieter, narrow streets lined with colourful townhouses, independent shops and cosy cafés. It's roughly midway between the fun of Tivoli and the foodie treats of Torvehallerne, both about a ten-minute walk away.

By plane: direct flights to Copenhagen from London, Manchester and Edinburgh (1 hour 45 minutes). It's a 20-minute drive to the hotel. Parking costs DKK 290 per day. Book flights to Copenhagen.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Hotel SP34 is made up of three old buildings, now connected, and on the outside looks totally traditional. Inside, though, contemporary Scandi design rules supreme, with poured concrete floors, pale wood tables and modular seating. Contemporary artworks line the walls and a Sögreni bike, with illuminated wheels, provides an eye-catching central feature.

THE FACILITIES

Guests can use the small fitness room (open round the clock) or borrow an in-room kit (with weights, straps and yoga mat) from the lobby. There's a private cinema, a library of books to borrow, and a roof terrace that opens during the summer months. Staff can also help with bike rental and tips on local jogging routes.

BED AND BATH

The design in the rooms is minimal and subdued, with pale neutral woods, tan leather chairs, and shades of white and grey for walls and soft furnishings. There are trademark bedheads shaped like chair backs, and nifty custom-made storage units that combine shelving and clothes rails.

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, workspace, in-room fitness kit, TV, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

The bar is the heart of the hotel and stocks a particularly impressive range of ports. On the food front, you get three good options; Vækst serves excellent modern Nordic food, Cocks & Cows specialises in burgers and cocktails, and Din Nye Ven is a relaxed café-bar with a neighbourhood feel.

Vækst: garden restaurant, Nordic cuisine. Open daily, 12-10pm (evening only Sun).

Cocks & Cows: burgers and cocktails. Open daily from 11:30am. Bottomless dining DKK 399.

Din Nye Ven: cosy café and bar, Danish cuisine. All-day menu, open Mon-Sat.
