OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Copenhagen's busiest main road runs along one side of the hotel, though good soundproofing takes care of any traffic noise. Cultural attractions such as the National Museum of Denmark and Museum of Copenhagen are within a ten-minute walk, as are the Metro stations by the town hall and central train station. Directly opposite the hotel is Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, with an excellent art collection and a fine café in the Winter Garden.

By plane: direct flights to Copenhagen from London, Manchester and Edinburgh (1 hour 45 minutes). It's a 15-minute drive to the hotel. Book flights to Copenhagen.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Swedish architectural firm Wingårdhs did a grand job of adding modern gloss to this heritage property. Bold contemporary elements (like a concrete block of a reception desk) sit happily alongside period features and it's tasteful from top to toe, with subtle colours and high-end materials - think acres of marble, parquet floors and soft leather sofas.

THE FACILITIES

Service is generally laidback and friendly. There's a small fitness room (open round the clock) in the basement, along with a marble-clad relaxation room containing a plunge pool, saunas, showers and hot stone seat. Hotel bikes are available to hire (though pricier than the norm) and staff can recommend good local running routes.

BED AND BATH

Black steel four-posters and light fittings set a minimal tone, warmed up by moody shades of blue or green paint on the walls and abstract rugs on the oak parquet floors. Not every design decision was sensible (the soft leather desktops, for example, are now heavily stained), but the overall look is undeniably cool.

Room types: Superior Loft, Superior, Deluxe, Junior Suite, Penthouse Suite, Nobis Suite

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, hairdryer, coffee machine, gym and spa access, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

The restaurant, Noi, is a handsome, airy space, flooded with light from the glass wall that faces the courtyard. The menu takes influences from around Europe and while some dishes are regulars (like the dry-aged rib-eye or the red prawns with garlic, chilli and parsley), others change with the seasons.

Restaurant NOI: European cuisine, locally-sourced ingredients. All-day dining, open daily.

Marble Bar: elegant bar, exclusive cocktails and curated spirits. Caviar and champagne available. Open daily, 4pm-12am.
