OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Copenhagen locations don't come much handier than this - the hotel is just one block back from Kongens Nytorv, the big central square that leads, on its far side, to the colourful townhouses of Nyhavn. The main shopping district is right on the doorstep and the nearest metro station is just a couple of minutes' walk away. There are some excellent drinking holes nearby, including Brønnum, 1105 and K-Bar for cocktails, and Ved Stranden, a lovely little wine bar.

By plane: direct flights to Copenhagen from London, Manchester and Edinburgh (1 hour 45 minutes). It's a 20-minute drive to the hotel. Parking costs DKK 299 per day. Book flights to Copenhagen.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The lobby/bar of the Socialist delivers an undeniable wow factor, with towering raw concrete walls and giant metal doors that date back to its days as a transformer station. Everything about the interiors says cool industrial chic, from the brushed steel bar to the 3D-printed tree sculpture that hangs high above it.

THE FACILITIES

Service is friendly, with staff who seem ever-smiley and happy to chat. There's not a great deal on the facilities front, but reception can give you a voucher for free entry to a nearby fitness club, share advice on local jogging routes or even lend out spare trainers and exercise clothing.

BED AND BATH

Dark-walled, moodily-lit corridors give way to brighter rooms decorated in shades of white and pale grey. The space age-looking beds are one of a kind, designed to recreate the cocooning feel of first class airline seats. Bathrooms are clad in marble-effect panels and have full-size toiletries from Danish organic brand Munkholm.

FOOD AND DRINK

Chef Boris Buono combines Danish, Italian and Japanese influences in a creative menu based around organic local produce, often cooked over an open fire. The concept is super flexible - you can just have a few snacks with drinks, pick a dish or two from the à la carte menu or push the boat out with the multi-course tasting menu.

Bobo Food Studio: four distinct venues. Bar serving small plates, à la carte and tasting menus in the restaurant. Local, seasonal produce. All-day menu, open daily from 7am. Set menus from DKK 500.
