The nearest Métro station is Saint-Michel Notre-Dame and parking is available nearby at a charge.

This 1950s listed building rising to nine floors began life as a theatre school and still has its original metal-framed windows. Interiors are by French artist and designer Raphael Navot whose masterly touch can be seen everywhere from menu fonts to terracotta table lamps inspired by the chimneys of Paris.

The young and friendly multilingual staff are known as 'artistes' and they perform well. Hôtel Dame des Arts-branded clothes and accessories are on sale at reception and bikes can be hired. There is a sauna, small fitness studio and a single massage room on the lower ground floor.

Some rooms face the street, others look down on the garden terrace. They are compact, but the warm woods, bronze drapes, fluted headboard in oatmeal and Saint-Germain-sourced art create an inviting tableau. Amenities include a safe, fridge, tea and coffee facilities, steamer and toiletries.

Room types: Classic, Signature, Premium Signature, Suite Dame, Junior Suite, Penthouse Suite

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, Nespresso machine, safe, free Wi-Fi

Unusually, there is no bar to sit at - just restaurant tables plus a leafy garden courtyard to the rear. The cuisine, described as 'contemporary Mexican with an Asian influence', rewards the curious with hit-the-spot cocktails and intriguing fusion dishes. There's a cool crowd and a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Restaurant: open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sunday brunch, 12-3pm.

The Rooftop: panoramic views, bespoke cocktails and champagne. Open daily, May-Sep, 5-10:30pm.
