OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Situated on the Gianicolo hill, with Vatican City on one side and the Tiber River on the other, the hotel has transformed a former convent, which itself was on the site of an original villa belonging to Emperor Nero's mother, Julia Agrippina. Castel Sant'Angelo, the mausoleum Emperor Hadrian built for himself, is a ten-minute walk away.

By plane: there are direct flights to Rome's Leonardo da Vinci International Airport from London (2 hours 25 mins), Manchester (3 hours 5 mins) and Bristol (4 hours 45 mins). The hotel is a 40-minute drive from the airport. Book flights to Rome.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The pink-painted villa is set in landscaped gardens that make you feel as though you are entirely outside of the city when you are lounging by the shallow outdoor pool. Inside the endless corridors of the former nunnery can feel a bit hospital-like, but the public rooms are exquisitely styled with teal and red.

THE FACILITIES

Service is personal and attentive from a friendly team with excellent English. Whether the barman is trying to fix you the ideal cocktail or the reception team is showing you the quickest route to the Vatican, you will feel well looked after. The bijou spa on the ground floor has a private courtyard hydrotherapy pool.
