Whether you opt for sustainable denim or high-waisted designs, a pair of jeans are a timeless classic.

And despite the shift towards loungewear and elasticated waistbands, you know that your favourite pair of denim trousers will always be something you reach for.

But, as we continue to socialise outdoors, jeans have received an update to provide a little extra warmth during your weekend rambles and weekday strolls. Allow us to introduce you to fleece-lined trousers – here to make easing out of loungewear and into denim just that little bit easier.

Once something you'd be forgiven for associating with keen outdoorsy types, we're predicting that fleece-lined jeans will become a coveted item in even the most fashion-forward of wardrobes.

Following Boris Johnson's last lockdown announcement on the 4 January, clothing brand Acai Outdoorwear reported receiving more than 4,000 orders for its thermal skinny jeans.

Cast aside your aspersions of jeggings (a jean/legging hybrid): we're touting these as your next best winter purchase.

After all, surely nothing beats an item of clothing that promises to keep you feeling as though you're still under a blanket?

You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

Acai Outdoorwear the skinny outdoor jeans, dark blue

With sales of Acai Outdoorwear's thermal fleece-lined jeans skyrocketing after Boris Johnson's lockdown announcement, the styles have been going in and out of stock at lightning speed. With the brand claiming that the fabric is both breathable and shower resistant, we think these are the ultimate skinny-fit trousers to be wearing this season. While not something you'll see on the catwalk, we'll certainly be donning these on our next socially distanced stroll. We predict another sell-out, so you'll want to act fast.

Italian hosiery brand Calzedonia impressed us with its offering of fleece-lined jeans that are not only functional, but fashionable. The brand claims that the brushed fabric on the inside gives these leggings both an extra-soft and comfortable fit, and we're here for the elasticated waistband, which will make you feel like you're still in your pjs. Warmth and comfort? Sounds like a win-win to us.
