Conor Benn says Chris Eubank Jr win 'on par with world title'

Conor Benn secured revenge in his huge rematch with Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday, after suffering an agonising defeat in their April showdown.

Seven months ago, Eubank Jr defeated Benn on points in an instant classic at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, handing the 29-year-old his first professional loss. And on Saturday, the British rivals returned to the scene of that bout for a seismic sequel.

While the rematch failed to deliver the consistent drama of the first fight, with Benn establishing and maintaining a clear lead, fans were brought out of their seats in the final minute as Benn dropped Eubank Jr twice. Eubank Jr, 36, did well to rise each time, but the moments were the exclamation marks on Benn’s redemption.

In winning on points, the 29-year-old also did what his father Nigel could not: score a victory over a Eubank. In the 1990s, Nigel Benn fought Eubank Sr twice, emerging from their own bitter rivalry with a defeat and a draw. But Conor can say he went one better, after finally earning a victory for his family in this generational feud.

Benn made Eubank Jr look like an old man and the next move should be clear

The last fight of boxing’s greatest family rivalry finished for good late on Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 35-year boxing war between the Eubank and Benn clans was completed against an odd backdrop of boos and vicious punching.

Chris Eubank Jr twice had to climb up from the blood-stained canvas in the twelfth and last round against Conor Benn to salvage pride for his family name, and hear the final bell. A round earlier, some in the crowd of 60,000 had booed the fight, unhappy at the level of skill and lack of slugging.

Conor Benn beats Chris Eubank Jr and crosses fine line between relief and revenge

After 35 minutes of their much-hyped rematch, Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr finally delivered the drama that coloured all 36 minutes of their enthralling initial clash.

With barely 60 seconds to go on this cold November night in Tottenham, Benn put down Eubank Jr, who was driven to the canvas a second time before all was said and done. Still, in one of many examples of staggering heart in this unique duo of duels, Eubank Jr rose to his feet both times, making it to the final bell.

That metallic clang was only ever going to herald one result: a clear decision victory for Benn, and more importantly for the 29-year-old, revenge and redemption.

Nigel Benn threatens to restart rivalry with Eubank family after son Conor’s win

Nigel Benn threatened to restart the rivalry with the Eubank family not long after Conor Benn’s victory as he launched into a furious tirade about “prat” Chris Eubank Sr.

Benn watched as son Conor produced a masterful display against Chris Eubank Jr at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday to claim redemption in a unanimous decision victory that had been 35 years in the making.

Eubank Sr won the first meeting in 1990 before former two-weight world champion Benn was incensed at a contentious draw at Old Trafford three years later.

Conor Benn says rivalry is ‘done, finished, over’ after beating Chris Eubank Jr

Conor Benn snapped back at his critics and promised the family rivalry was over after he claimed redemption against an out-of-sorts Chris Eubank Jr with a masterful display.

The sons of Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr had produced a classic encounter in April which went the way of the latter to ensure it was 2-0 to the Eubanks after three historic bouts.

A fourth and final instalment failed to match the drama of previous contests, but Benn produced a composed showing for the best performance of his career to win by unanimous decision after the judges scored the one-sided fight 119-107, 116-110 and 118-108.

Chris Eubank Jr: I went ‘through hell and back’ ahead of defeat to Conor Benn

Chris Eubank Jr refused to rule out retirement after defeat to Conor Benn, but acknowledged he needed time to heal after going “through hell and back” before Saturday’s fight.

Eubank Jr (36-4, 25KOs) had played his part in a classic encounter with Benn (24-1, 14KOs) in April and got the better of his rival in an old-fashioned brawl by unanimous decision.

The tables were turned comprehensively this time in the fourth and final instalment of the family rivalry, with Eubank Jr a shadow of his former self and unable to handle the speed and ferocity of Benn.

Nigel Benn reignites bitter family rivalry: 'I find him a right prat'

Nigel Benn launched into an umprompted tirade against the Eubank family after son Conor was victorious over Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday night, calling Chris Eubank Sr a “prat”.

The fathers did not shake hands pre-match and Benn said later that they faced off at the press conference, inspiring his later rant.

“At the press conference...I'm a say it now, we had a face-off,” Benn said. “He is dancing because he loves the limelight. He doesn't care about his son, he just loves the limelight.

“And he is dancing, he came right next to me and I thought 'let me just shake your hand', so I pulled him in for a hug and he put his hand up to me.

“And I actually felt like I wanted to... so when he tried to shake my hand tonight, I thought 'I ain't playing your games, mate'. I don't think I'll even speak to him again, because I find him a right prat.

“He is an idiot. He tries to quote scripture and all that, he don't even know what he is talking about.

“I just can't get him. When you have them two around you, everything is just so negative.

“Back in the day, we never talked disrespectful about our promoters that are putting money in our banks and giving us a good life.

“We never did that with Frank Warren or Mickey Duff, we never slagged them off, but the way he (Eubank Jr) talks about Eddie Hearn, how disrespectful is he? Both of them.

“And then Eubank (Sr) is always talking about, 'we're struggling at the weight, they're going to kill my son', mate, he's been a middleweight for how many years?

“He has been IBO champion, but as soon as he fights a welterweight, oh we have problems. Always bloody moaning. Always.

“I tell you what, I'm sick to death of them to tell the truth and I am glad it's over now. I am glad it's over now and we won't have hear about them anymore.”

Frampton and Jones call on Eubank Jr to retire

As the dust settles on Benn’s emphatic win over Eubank Jr, attention turns to their respective futures.

Former boxers Carl Frampton and Barry Jones said during the broadcast on DAZN that Eubank Jr should retire.

“It was a great performance from Conor, but this might be the time to call it a day for Chris,” Frampton said. “I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm just being honest.”

Former WBO super-featherweight champion Jones agreed: “I do think it should be the end for Chris.

“It was evident from round one that he was flat. It could be weight [Eubank Jr was restricted by a rehydration clause] or it could be wear and tear, I think it's the latter.

“We should give all the credit to Conor Benn, but there were opportunities for Chris to pull the trigger.

“He didn't throw his punches from round one. He was quite lethargic.”

How the night unfolded

For his part, Eubank Jr was gracious in defeat, giving no excuses for his flat performance and hailing his opponent as the better man.

"I've been through hell and back to get to this night, and it is what it is. I tried my best, and listen, the kid fought hard. He fought tough. He's got power," he said.

"Who knows, maybe we will see something new between me and him and maybe we won't, but for right now, it's all about this man. It's his night."

How the night unfolded

With the two boxers' fathers engaging in a heated rivalry in the 1990s that echoed in their sons' two 2025 clashes, Benn recorded his family's first victory over the Eubanks and quickly drew a line under it, saying there would be no re-match.

"I feel like this is the end of the Benn-Eubank saga. Done. Finished. It's over ... this ends here," he said, before taking a swipe at his detractors and praising Eubank Jr.

"Everyone's saying, I can't box? Put that in your pipe and smoke it ... credit to Chris man, that's all I say. Thank you for sharing the ring with me."

How the night unfolded

Both boxers struggled to land in the penultimate round and although Eubank Jr briefly tangled with the ropes, he survived but a smattering of the crowd left before round 12.

Benn was clearly ahead and yet made sure his family claimed a first victory 35 years in the waiting with a destructive round, knocking down Eubank with another one-two combination and again during the final 60 seconds.

Held aloft by his dad straight after the bell, Benn celebrated as 'Dangerous' blared over the speakers. Not long later and Eubank Jr was gracious enough to embrace the 29-year-old from Ilford.

Victory was a formality at this point, but Benn's name was read out to give his family a much-craved win in a remarkable rivalry spread across four decades.
