Manchester City will face Chelsea in the third round of the Carabao Cup, as the draw threw up a number of all-Premier League ties. Manchester United host Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest take on Tottenham and Arsenal play Brighton in some of the other picks of the third round.
Holders Liverpool were drawn against Derby , Everton travel to Bournemouth while Leeds were paired with Wolves. Crawley Town’s reward for knocking out Fulham was a trip to Burnley. Newcastle United, who beat Tranmere Rovers to reach the third round on Wednesday, will play Crystal Palace at St James’ Park. The third-round ties will take place across 8-10 November. Eddie Howe says he has “no idea” about reports linking Aleksander Isak with a move to Newcastle. The club have said to have agreed a club record deal with Real Sociedad for the Sweden international striker.

So who could do with winning the Carabao Cup the most this season? You’d think Tottenham have got to be up there, depending on where it sits on Antonio Conte’s list of priorities. Newcastle have to fancy their chances and the optimism on the Toon would only grow with a cup run, while they are desperate to end their long wait for a trophy.

But back to the Carabao Cup - and it’s Newcastle, Leeds, Brighton and Bristol City who have progressed tonight.

Just enough time to catch the end of PSV vs Rangers in the Champions League, with the Glasgow side holding on to a 1-0 win that would get them through to tomorrow’s group stage draw.
