'This feels close to defeat' - mixed emotions for Moyes after United draw

Everton were denied a last-gasp penalty as Manchester United fought from behind to claim a draw in a dramatic Premier League clash at Goodison Park.

Everton, who led by two goals at half-time only for United to draw level, were awarded a penalty deep in stoppage time as Ashley Young went down in the box.

But referee Andrew Madley overturned his decision after an on-field review, ruling that Young had thrown himself to the ground under the challenge of Matthijs de Ligt.

Everton had appeared to be continuing their resurgence under David Moyes as goals from striker Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure fired the Toffees into a deserved half-time lead.

But as United looked to be slipping to a third defeat in a row, captain Bruno Fernandes stepped up to curl a free-kick past Jordan Pickford and give the visitors late hope.

Manuel Ugarte then found the equaliser as he smashed in a volley from the edge of the box, and United finished the stronger side as Pickford tipped over a Fernandes shot.

And while United remain 15th in the table, behind 12th-placed Everton, the hosts will feel they should have had an opportunity to take all three points on a dramatic afternoon.

Pressure from both sides as de Ligt puts a cross behind for a corner, but it’s headed away.

We’ll have at least five minutes added on.

Everton brought on Iroegbunam and Alcaraz for Garner and Doucoure a few minutes ago.

United work another half-chance as Garnacho cuts back inside and squares a ball for Zirkzee, but his cross is straight to Pickford.

More pressure from United, started off with good work from Garnacho, ends with a corner as Fernandes works a half-yard and fizzes in a shot that Pickford tips over.

Everton win a free-kick from the set-piece.

Yoro’s cross almost breaks to Zirkzee in the box, but Everton counter.

They work a great chance too, as Young’s cross is headed towards goal by Beto, but there’s not enough power on the cross and the header is straight at Onana.

All of a sudden, United are threatening in attack, with Dorgu winning a corner.

From the set-piece, Zirkzee wants a penalty as his header looks to come off the arm of Branthwaite, but it’s never a spot-kick.

GOAL! Out of nowhere, the visitors are level!

It’s a decent goal too, as Fernandes’ free-kick is headed straight to Ugarte, who brings it down before rifling a volley past Pickford from just inside the box.

United have improved in possession since Fernandes move into a deeper role when Garnacho came on, but they still haven’t really created anything in attack from open play.

The visitors have a spell of sustained possession in the Everton half, but there aren’t any routes through the Everton defence yet.

Once again, United are relying on moments of individual quality to get them back into games. They look like they’ll need another one if they’re to get anything from this, as the team effort does not look like producing a goal.

Everton 2-1 Man Utd

Until Bruno Fernandes scored United's belated first league goal in February, their xG today was 0.04. They have been hopeless today and yet there is a chance now they could get a point. Everton's last home game was a 2-2 with a very late goal. They enjoyed that. They would not enjoy a repeat.

GOAL! United have one back!

It looks like a great goal too, as Fernandes steps up and rifles the free-kick into the bottom-right corner.

Pickford had taken a step to the opposite side and the Portuguese just curled it past the wall and right into the corner. Great finish.
