'This feels close to defeat' - mixed emotions for Moyes after United draw

Everton were denied a last-gasp penalty as Manchester United fought from behind to claim a draw in a dramatic Premier League clash at Goodison Park.

Everton, who led by two goals at half-time only for United to draw level, were awarded a penalty deep in stoppage time as Ashley Young went down in the box.

But referee Andrew Madley overturned his decision after an on-field review, ruling that Young had thrown himself to the ground under the challenge of Matthijs de Ligt.

Everton had appeared to be continuing their resurgence under David Moyes as goals from striker Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure fired the Toffees into a deserved half-time lead.

But as United looked to be slipping to a third defeat in a row, captain Bruno Fernandes stepped up to curl a free-kick past Jordan Pickford and give the visitors late hope.

Manuel Ugarte then found the equaliser as he smashed in a volley from the edge of the box, and United finished the stronger side as Pickford tipped over a Fernandes shot.

And while United remain 15th in the table, behind 12th-placed Everton, the hosts will feel they should have had an opportunity to take all three points on a dramatic afternoon.

Good running from Dorgu and he’s clipped by O’Brien right on the edge of the box.

Fernandes is standing over the free-kick, and he fires it in but it’s cleared by the first man at the near post.

Slightly better from United as Dalot lays off a pass to Casemiro, whose cross is headed behind for a corner.

From the set-piece, Zirkzee heads over.

There’ll be six minutes of added time.

United have the ball but they don’t look in a particular rush to score the goal that could get them back into the game.

Unsurprisingly, Everton are looking very comfortable in possession as the half comes to an end.

Both sides look content to go in for half-time at the moment.

When United do have the ball, it’s all a little bit static ahead of whoever is in possession.

They do win a free-kick near the touchline, but Fernandes’ ball in is cleared before Ugarte fires a speculative effort well wide from outside the area.

Another abject United performance, another bit of disastrous defending for the second goal. It was too easy for Beto to run in behind the slow defence. No one tracked Jack Harrison's run. Doucoure outjumped a static Harry Maguire to score. And now the talk at Goodison is of how Everton could score three goals in a first half for the third time in four games.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s Everton who are still creating all the opportunities.

Lindstrom’s brilliant flick releases Garner, who fizzes in a ball to Beto, but the striker can’t get a shot away.

No attempts on target from United yet, with Everton having had four. Another toothless display from United so far.

Mykolenko is okay to carry on.

There’s a raucous atmosphere at Goodison Park now, though there’s a break in play as Mykolenko is receiving treatment.

GOAL! Everton 2-0 Man Utd

GOAL! The hosts have doubled their lead!

It’s too easy for Everton, with a pass from their own half playing in Beto. He looks up and squares a pass to Harrison, who feints to beat Maguire and then hits a shot at Onana.

The ‘keeper saves it but he can only palm it high into the air, and Beto is arriving and jumps high to head it in!
