Sweden vs Canada LIVE: Tokyo 2020 women’s football final result after penalty shootout
Both nations guaranteed a medal but gold is on the line in Yokohama
Sweden face Canada in the final of the women’s football at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday, with the gold medal game taking place in Yokohama.
Both these nations picked up medals in Rio 2016, but neither got the gold they are both searching for this time around - Sweden took silver, Canada the bronze, both edged out by Germany along the way. One of them will be celebrating wildly come full-time on this occasion, however, with Sweden having overcome Japan and Australia to get back into the final, and Canada seeing off Brazil and United States en route to the Nissan Stadium showpiece event.
Team USA eventually took the bronze medal on Thursday after a thrilling seven-goal encounter with Australia, but now it’s all eyes on Sweden and Canada to see who triumphs as Olympic champions in Japan.

Full time in extra time
Schough digs out another left-footed cross and finds Hurtig unmarked again, but once more the header is wayward, well off-target this time.
That’s the last real chance of the 120 minutes and we are going to penalties to settle the gold-medal match!
Kullberg comes on as sub in the final seconds for Sweden, Zadorsky does likewise for Canada - we’ll see if those changes are with taking a spot-kick in mind.

Another Sweden set-piece causes havoc but Canada hack it clear. Asllani’s deliveries have been so on-point today.
Then it’s a cross from the left and how Sweden haven’t scored is incredible...at least two blocks and tackles inside the six-yard box, one bouncing ball just about cleared by the post and then another clearance launched anywhere at all.
If there’s to be a winner, it looks like Sweden, but just two minutes left...

Five more minutes...then it’s penalties to decide silver or gold.
Hurtig is making a nuisance of herself for Sweden but at the other end Rose has done likewise since coming on for the second half - another tremendous turn and run down the right ends in a cross to Huitema, but her header is directed back across goal and wide by a distance.
Tokyo 2020: Sweden 1-1 Canada

Great run from Schough to win a corner down the right. Asllani’s delivery is brilliant and Hurtig gets up highest to nod at goal - but her header flicks just wide of the far post! The bench were on their feet, thinking that was the winner.

Second half of extra time
On we go again for the final 15 minutes. Olivia Schough and Anna Anvegard are on for Blackstenius and Rolfo, as Sweden look for more energy in the final third.
