OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

St Joseph's is only a three-minute walk from Pile Gate, Dubrovnik's western entrance to the fully pedestrianised Old Town, and about a minute from the Stradun, the main thoroughfare. If you're coming from Ploče Gate on the Old Town's eastern side, it's only five minutes' walk to the hotel. You've got everything within minutes: the City Walls, the Old Port, Banje Beach and the Old Town's top restaurants and bars.

By plane: direct flights from London to Dubrovnik take 2 hours 30 minutes. The hotel is a 30-minute drive from the airport. Book flights to Dubrovnik.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

With exposed creamy stone walls and white ceiling beams, the décor resembles a very chic and upmarket French country cottage. In the compact reception area, you're greeted by stone staircases and glittering crystal chandeliers, adding a discreet touch of Louis XIV. The overall look is one of elegance and immense calm.

THE FACILITIES

Multilingual staff are warm and friendly, eager to make your stay memorable for all the right reasons. They'll organise excursions, private tours and transfers, suggest restaurants and arrange to meet you at the entrance to the Old Town to ensure you find the right door among the labyrinth of lanes.

BED AND BATH

The same chic French country cottage look runs throughout the six suites, with pale tones, nicely overstuffed armchairs and exposed brick walls and ceiling beams. In contrast, the kitchenettes are sleek and modern, as are the Carrara marble bathrooms. The cottage rooms are more compact and less ornate, with a shared kitchen/dining area.

Room types: Standard Room, Attic Room, Queen Suite, King Suite, Apartment

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, air conditioning, smart TV, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

In the main townhouse, breakfast is brought to your room every morning, while the cottage has a communal dining/kitchen area. The choice is up to you: eggs how you want them, omelettes, bread and pastries straight from the bakery, homemade cakes, bacon, fresh fruit, porridge, muesli, plus vegetarian and vegan options.

Breakfast: a full breakfast is served either in-room (St Joseph's) or an open-plan kitchen (St Joseph's Cottage).
