OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The hotel is by the RAI Convention centre. It feels quite isolated, but the metro is very near and can get you to Centraal Station, the city centre and Schiphol Airport in a few minutes. The De Pijp neighbourhood is easily reached also, which has a good selection of restaurants. There isn't a great deal in the immediate vicinity, although there's a good Italian restaurant opposite the hotel.

By train: the Eurostar goes direct from London St Pancras to Amsterdam Centraal. The hotel is a 20-minute taxi ride from the station. Book trains to Amsterdam.

By plane: direct flights from London and Manchester take around 1 hour 15 minutes. The hotel is a 15-minute drive from Schiphol airport and a 20-minute drive from central station. Parking costs €27 per day. Book flights to Amsterdam.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The huge lobby, lounge and bar area is very swish, with a bicycle-wheel sculpture, bold images of flowers, shelving displaying modern ceramics and guests' handwritten messages placed on a bank of bicycle carriers. There are sweet little touches, such as flowers painted on the stairs up to the terrace. Contemporary easy chairs are grouped together around a large brown leather sofa, and a large bar completes the sophisticated urban feel.

THE FACILITIES

The large, attractive lobby lounge and bar area are definitely the highlights of the hotel. This is augmented by the staff always being friendly, accommodating and efficient. Bikes are available for guests.

FOOD AND DRINK

Motel One does not offer a restaurant service although a good breakfast and snacks are available. The buffet breakfast, though not extensive, includes cheeses, meats, strong coffee, juices, bread, boiled eggs, croissants and pastries. The bar has a good selection of drinks, including 25 gins, some of them local.

The One Lounge: cosy bar and lounge, with working space. Serving toasties, snacks and refreshments. Open 24 hours.
