OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The Pine Cliffs Resort is perched above the Praia Da Falésia on the stunning red cliffs of Albufeira, terrain that this part of the world is famous for. It's a half-hour drive from the airport, located in a suburb of the town which means amenities are nearby. The hotel is a short drive from the entrance (be sure to turn right or you end up at the golf course). If lazing on the beach, the Maré Restaurant right below the hotel on Praia Da Falésia has tasty food such as Algarvian gazpacho and octopus salad, plus thirst-quenching beverages.

By plane: flights to Faro take around 3 hours from London and Manchester and 2 hours 30 mins from Bristol. The drive to the hotel takes 30 mins. Free parking on-site. Book flights to Faro.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The resort captures the ambience of the Algarve with cream-coloured stucco, terracotta tiles decorating the roofs and a citrus orchard planted near the hotel entrance. Inside, subdued cream colours persist with a few splashes of blue tile décor, such as the headboard adorning the bed in keeping with local custom. There is a typical Algarvean square beyond the lobby with a fountain open to the sky.

THE FACILITIES

The reception desk staff are lovely and were helpful at check in and throughout the stay; all the staff wanted us to be satisfied. When a waitress at breakfast accidentally spilled a bit of hot water from the teapot on my leg, I reacted with surprise but her worry for my wellbeing and genuine concern made a big impression.

The main part of the accommodation is spacious, well laid out and comfortable. Décor-wise, subdued cream colours add to the relaxing ambience. The bathroom is also well laid out and spacious, with a separate shower room and bathtub. Add in a balcony which is comfortable and private.

FOOD AND DRINK

The Jardim Colonial Buffet had a huge amount of variety and a great pastry selection, plus a chef on hand at breakfast to make omelettes and eggs to order. The Clubhouse Restaurant overlooking the golf course was a favourite, offering a fantastic outdoor location with excellent fish dishes and salads. The Café Corda has an excellent selection of burgers, sandwiches, and Portuguese dishes. It also has a bartender that makes a mean margarita.

Clubhouse Restaurant: sandwiches, pasta, meat and fish mains. Open daily 9am-5pm. Mains from €15.
