The hotel entrance is in an alley off Derb Assehbé, on the west side of the medina near the Bab Doukkala mosque. The neighbourhood is scruffy and rather soulless with a large roundabout and modern hotels close by. Airport transfers take 20 minutes, parking is available nearby. The main square of Jemaa el-Fnaa is a ten-minute walk to the southeast. Dar El Basha, a splendidly decorated palace from 1910, lies to the east.

By plane: direct flights from London to Marrakech Menara take around 4 hours. The hotel is a 20-minute drive from the airport. Parking costs €5 per day. Book flights to Marrakech.

The property is a happy jumble of patios, pools, lounges and dining venues enhanced by olive trees and flowering plants. Heavy doors and serried arches create a sense of grandeur, but there are also many intimate spaces to relax in, plus a boutique selling cherry-picked Moroccan clothes, bags and homewares.

The hotel has two heated pools plus sunbathing areas, along with a basic gym, a small business centre and an ATM. There is an outstanding choice of experiences from quad biking and visiting an organic garden to an 'Instagram Expedition' and storytelling in a private home.
