Hotel Review: Ducato di Oia, Santorini

The hotel is located in tourist-central, just metres from the centre of Oia, with its busy bars, restaurants and boutiques - and which can get very busy in peak and even shoulder seasons, especially when the cruise ships come. However, the hotel offers a welcomed tranquil respite from all the action. Katharos beach is a 15-minute stroll away.

The hotel style is like most in Santorini - white, domed, cave-like and curved, the rooms stacked above each other in terraces. The resulting feel is cool and relaxing.

The hotel doesn't have a large number of facilities, but it is more about creating a relaxing atmosphere in attractive surroundings. There's a small bar, Barozzi, open after 4pm, a public swimming pool, free car parking, breakfast room service and a concierge.

The rooms and suites vary from 18 to 49sqm and most have a private plunge pool and terrace. They look out to the Aegean Sea, having a caldera bay or side sea view. With polished concrete-style and inlaid stone flooring, light walls and antique-style wardrobes, they are pleasing to the eye.
