OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The hotel is perched on the volcanic cliffs outside the village of Imerovigli, in the highest part of the island, so spectacular views are guaranteed. You do feel a bit isolated, which in one way is blissful, but in another can mean quite a reliance on taxis - which by their scarcity are not cheap on Santorini.

By plane: flights from London or Manchester to Thira take around 4 hours. A taxi will take 15 minutes from the airport. Free on-site parking. Book flights to Thira.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Nobu took over a previous hotel, Omma, and have completely reshaped it. Rooms and suites are pretty close together so there's not always the seclusion you'd like, but with just 25 of them there's never a feeling of it being crowded. While the buildings have a very Greek feel, the numerous Japanese touches among the décor and furnishings blend to create a very pleasing look. The Nobu magic ensures a supremely relaxing ambience throughout the development.

THE FACILITIES

Service is extremely efficient, and the staff-to-guest ratio is very high. As well as two pools, a bar and restaurant, there is a terraced breakfast restaurant and a well-equipped gym.

BED AND BATH

Suites nod to the traditional Santorini cave-style rooms, known as iposkafa. The white is broken up by earthy curtains, rugs and cushions. Minimalist in style, suites have Japanese-accented wooden furniture, artworks and ceramics. Bathrooms have black lava sinks and some suites have a small pool or hot tub.

Room types: Aozora, Mizu, Zen, Zen Two-Bedroom, Miyabi, Umi, Yuhi, Nobu Suites; Villa

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, tea and coffee facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

Nobu is world-famous for its impeccable fusion of Japanese cuisine with Peruvian ingredients and it's a memorable (if particularly expensive) experience having a meal at the open air restaurant as you watch the sunset. The six-course tasting menu is to be recommended.

Nobu: iconic restaurant, Peruvian-Japanese fusion cuisine. Classic dishes include Black Cod Den Miso and Yellowtail Jalapeño. All-day dining, open daily.
