Man City vs Spurs betting tips

  • Man City to win, both teams to score - 8/5 Ladbrokes
  • Tijjani Reijnders to score or assist - 8/5 Bet365
  • These three outcomes combined as a bet builder - 9/2 with Bet365

Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur in the weekend's early kick-off on Saturday, with Pep Guardiola’s side looking to lay down an early marker to their Premier League title rivals.

City came into the weekend looking to put a disappointing 2024/25 campaign behind them and started brilliantly, dominating Wolves and scoring some impressive goals on their way to an encouraging 4-0 win in their opener.

But they face an altogether more difficult test in their second game of the season, against a Spurs side that seems to have improved quickly under new boss Thomas Frank.

The Europa League holders put the Super Cup defeat behind them quickly to dismantle Burnley in their first match of the new season, though it’ll be an altogether different test away to City this weekend.

And though Spurs have become something of a bogey team for City in recent seasons, Guardiola’s men remain clear favourites with betting sites, with the bookies going odds-on for a home win. Below, we’ve picked out our best bets, which pays out at 9/2 when combined on one slip as a bet builder.

Man City vs Tottenham prediction: City to lay down title marker

City’s win over Wolves was an impressive performance and even though Wolves’ quality came into question, the early signs are positive for Guardiola’s City rebuild.

Tijjani Reijnders was particularly impressive, as was fellow new signing Rayan Cherki, while Erling Haaland returned to goalscoring ways immediately in what was a solid team performance.

While Wolves could well prove to be relegation candidates this season, the performance was enough to tentatively suggest that City will be back in amongst the title fight this season, especially once Rodri returns.

Spurs’ own opening performance was also encouraging, though it came against a newly promoted side in Burnley, and while they managed to score three goals in that one, it remains to be seen how they fare against the league’s best sides.

City are yet to face a real test of their defence so far this season, so Frank will look to exploit that, and he could well find success if players including Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison perform.

But no matter what Spurs do, the pre-match feel is an ominous one after that opening City performance, with long odds on a Spurs win showing exactly how the bookies feel ahead of kick-off.

Nevertheless, contests between these two are usually closer in practice than on paper, so we’re going with City to win and both teams to score, which is offered around 8/5 with various football betting sites.

City vs Tottenham betting tip: Reijnders to continue blistering start

Of all the players to impress last weekend, summer signing Tijjani Reijnders grabbed the spotlight for City, scoring a brilliantly taken goal and providing an assist on his Premier League debut.

The Dutchman’s all-action performance drew plenty of plaudits and he will remain a key man in midfielder until at least the return of Rodri, and – on the basis of this performance – long after the Spaniard has returned.

Reijnders became just the second City player to score and assist on his debut – second only to Sergio Aguero – and provided plenty of promise in both attack and in holding midfield on his debut, and we’re backing him to do so again against Spurs.

Betting apps have already adjusted their outright football odds on the back of Reijnders’ eye-catching performance, with Bet365 slashing his odds for Premier League PFA Player of the Year from 66/1 to just 9/1, with Betway currently offering the best price on the 27-year-old at 14/1.

He scored 15 goals and registered five assists for Milan last season across all competitions, so while he is not necessarily known as a goalscoring midfielder, he is more than capable of chipping in a few times each season, and we think he’ll continue his confident start in his first home match for City.

City vs Spurs Predicted XIs

With Josko Gvardiol still injured, Guardiola is expected to stick with Rayan Ait-Nouri at left-back.

Rodri is nearing fitness, although this game could come too soon for the Spaniard, so City fans may have to wait a little longer to see how compatible he is with new star Reijnders.

Phil Foden is also closing in on full fitness, but Bernardo Silva is the safe option so should get the nod over the England international.

Meanwhile, Thomas Frank is expected to shift his Tottenham defence to a back five, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero set to be joined by Kevin Danso at centre-half.

That could be bad news for Archie Gray, who may have to drop out of midfield to accommodate the extra defender.

Elsewhere, Richarlison can expect to keep his place up front following his stunning brace on the opening day of the campaign.
