OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The Pilot is situated within a Georgian terrace with modern residential towers beyond. It overlooks a large tree-lined lawn and North Greenwich underground station (Jubilee line), and a good choice of buses are nearby. Another travel option is the Emirates Airline cable car over the Thames. Historic Greenwich town centre is a short bus ride away. The 02, with its bars, cafes, restaurants, cinema and live shows is just a five-minute walk away.

By car: the hotel is 4 hours from Manchester and less than 3 hours from Bristol. Free parking available.

By train: North Greenwich tube station is eight minutes' walk away; Charlton station is a ten-minute taxi ride. Book trains to London.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

While the bar area of the pub is pretty traditional, the designers of the accommodation have let loose their imaginations, with quirky wallpapers, pictures and ornaments. Each colourful room differs widely in character, and all would be fun to stay in. Well maintained, there's a touch of luxury, such as Egyptian cotton bed linen.

THE FACILITIES

The Pilot has two personalities: one, as a busy, working pub, and the other, on the floor above, being more sedate, with surprisingly characterful, original and smart hotel rooms. There are a few luxuries, like premium toiletries, and the free parking is a boon in an area where parking is usually difficult.

FOOD AND DRINK

The ground floor of this pub has a large bar, where a good-sized menu and range of drinks are served. In the summer there are tables outside in the attractive garden. The menu has typical - yet good - pub dishes such as burgers, haddock and chips, and steak and ale pie with mash and gravy.

The Pilot: traditional British pub with garden. Hearty fare, seasonal ingredients. All-day menu, open daily
