THE LOOK AND FEEL

The playful design of the hotel echoes the flamboyant era of dandyism, capturing the theatrical, mischievous atmosphere of the times of Oscar Wilde, while incorporating motifs from Alice in Wonderland: brightly-coloured butterflies in boxes, witty paintings depicting characters from Wilde's plays, and the hotel mascot - a fox - popping up here and there in lively playful designs. Despite the hotel's size (there are 172 rooms), the Dandy Bar - the heart and soul of the hotel - was designed to feel snug and welcoming, with mirrored ceilings, tub chairs and mood lighting. On the lower ground floor is the Club Room, a co-working space.

THE FACILITIES

For a hotel of such a size, facilities are very limited. There's a small gym with Technogym equipment and not much else. The lower ground floor Club Room doubles as a co-working space and, if you're here on business, The Den and Oscar's Study can be hired as meeting spaces or private dining rooms. Staff are welcoming although at times service feels a little forced. That said, bar staff bring manifest experience, rustling up superb cocktails with unbridled skill.

The décor is contemporary and sophisticated, with furnishings reflecting the decadence of the early 21st century: sleek black wardrobes with solid brass handles, and black and white plaid cushions on the beds that subtly capture the personality of bachelor pads of the era of the dandy.

FOOD AND DRINK

The Dandy Bar offers all-day dining, perfect to satisfy your food cravings in between shopping sprees and visits to Mayfair art galleries. That said, it's mostly about the drinks here - experienced mixologists shake up creative cocktails that will satisfy even the most discerning of palates. Simply tell the barman what tipple you favour and he will concoct a punchy cocktail that you won't forget. Cocktail prices are reasonable too, considering the Mayfair location.

The Dandy Bar: intimate bar and dining space. All-day menu, open daily. Mains from £18.
