OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The hotel is situated in tranquil Sant'Elena, an authentic, almost suburban part of the city, far from the crowds of St Mark's Square (although only a 15-minute walk away). The former convent is hidden away down a quiet street, just moments from the verdant expanse of the Biennale Gardens.

By plane: flights from London to Venice take 2 hours. Take an airport boat (1 hour 20 minutes) to reach the hotel, or a water taxi. Book flights to Venice.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Enter into the former 1930s convent and you know you've stepped into a boutique hotel. Natural light floods in from the floor-to-ceiling doors that lead out to the courtyard garden and is balanced with artificial light from low-hung glass pendants. Plants line every shelf and teal velvet drapes dress the windows.

THE FACILITIES

From a warm welcome on arrival to a cheerful explanation of the menu in the restaurant, you will be well looked after here. The internal garden is a tranquil place to relax after the crowds of the centre. You can organise transfers and tickets at the reception.

Rooms are super stylish, with plush teal velvet headboards, vintage telephones, terrazzo-tiled bathrooms and feature wallpaper. Some of the ground-floor rooms have garden access, while several upper-floor rooms have private sun-trap terraces.

FOOD AND DRINK

There is a great atmosphere in Savor, where a menu of simple Italian dishes is prepared with the freshest local produce; plates arrive at the table bursting with flavour. A classic Parmigiana di melanzane is a beautifully presented stack of aubergine, mozzarella, parmesan and tomato with sprigs of fresh basil.

Savor Restaurant and Bar: Venetian cuisine, open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
