OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Kalesma is located in the northwest of the island, in Aleomandra, between Ornos Bay and Agios Ioannis. Yacht-studded, resort-like Ornos Bay with its beach with shallow waters ideal for families lies below it, while both Mykonos town and the airport are a 15-minute drive away.

By plane: flights from London and Manchester take under 4 hours. A taxi will take 10 minutes from Mykonos airport. Free on-site parking. Book flights to Mykonos.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The ethos of the hotel is to create a feeling of the old Myconian houses set around a square. Both the contemporary and the traditional have been melded together seamlessly. The excellent result is not surprising considering the exteriors were created by Greek design company K-studio, which also worked on the new Mykonos airport, and interiors are by celebrated designer Vangelis Bonios.

THE FACILITIES

Service is attentive and friendly. There's a heated outdoor seawater infinity pool on the terrace, overlooking the Aegean and the hills across the bay. Next to it is the cocktail bar, sunset lounge and restaurant. There's a small boutique in the swish lobby area, a chapel and a small gym. Concierge can arrange restaurant and bar bookings, guided tours and much more.

FOOD AND DRINK

It's no surprise the restaurant is one of the most sought after on the island considering that owners Aby Saltiel and Makis and Sofia Kousathanas also own acclaimed Athens restaurants Pere Ubu and Sea Spice. Executive chef Costas Tsingas gives a modern twist to traditional local cuisine, and sumptuous plates of roast octopus, melt-in-the-mouth flatbreads, marinated fish and the like are the norm.

Pere Ubu Mykonos: Greek cuisine, small plates and sharing plates. All-day dining, open daily.
