OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

You're close enough to town to enjoy everything St Peter Port has to offer (just walk down the steep, terraced gardens of the hotel into the capital's centre), and yet elevated to feel away from the throng. The harbour is just an eight-minute walk away for services to the UK, France and other islands. Castle Cornet and Victor Hugo's house at Hauteville are both within walking distance of the hotel.

By plane: flights from London Heathrow to Guernsey take around 1 hour 15 minutes. The hotel is a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport.

By boat: ferries to St Peter Port run from Poole (3 hours) and Portsmouth (7 hours). Free parking available. Book boats.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

It feels like you are stepping into a smart private house, with a sweeping staircase and choice items of antique furniture. The restaurant has an intricate parquet floor, pale blue walls and curtains and aqua chairs. In the bar, there's a feature wallpaper of silver trees on a lavender background.

THE FACILITIES

Facilities are limited in this city-centre hotel and you won't find a swimming pool or a spa. However, the service is excellent and you can expect twice daily housekeeping in your room, and reception staff will perform concierge services and help you make reservations or hire bicycles.

BED AND BATH

If you have a room in the old part you might get a characterful sloping roof or a period fireplace, if you are in the modern wing, chances are you'll have a large balcony terrace to enjoy those views. Bathrooms have heated towel rails and large showerheads.

Room types: Single Room, Standard Room, Bay View Room, Deluxe Room, The Suite

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, tea and coffee facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

Expect beautifully presented dishes celebrating local ingredients from across the archipelago, with a focus on fish and seafood. Perhaps order half a dozen Herm island oysters to start, or some hand-dived local scallops and follow with a whole Guernsey lobster with Jersey royal potatoes or perhaps a fillet of turbot with Sark butter.

The Restaurant: main restaurant and terrace, sea views. Seasonal menus, local produce. All-day menu, open daily.
