The Bang on the Door babe is back and we’ve found the merch to celebrate, from tote bags to face masks
During such uncertain times, anything that provides a welcome hit of nostalgia is a win in our books. Luckily, the Nineties gods have spoken and our favourite childhood character is back: Groovy Chick, in all her glamorous glory.
From stationery to bedding and scooters, if you didn’t have some form of Bang on The Door merchandise, were you really a Nineties kid?
Groovy Chick’s tasseled flares, cute crop top and mini handbag are a celebration of trends that have come back around. We’d argue that Jacquemeus has GC to thank for the success of its signature micro bags.
As Nineties fashion continues its renaissance, Groovy Chick made a comeback this week as clothing brand Daisy Street has created two tees adorned with bright prints of the Nineties character, available exclusively on Asos.
You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections. This revenue helps us to fund journalism across The Independent.
Both the white (£21.99, Asos) and green (£19.99, Asos) T-shirts are unsurprisingly, already sold out. But luckily for you, we’ve found a range of Groovy Chic-inspired merch to celebrate the revival of our favourite character, so you can still soak up all of that pre-teen nostalgia.
Nineties kids will appreciate this retro birthday card, available to personalise with the recipient's name and a photo that sits proudly next to Groovy Chick herself. Inside, there’s a blank drawing of the character ready to be coloured in, an activity that certainly shouldn’t be reserved for children. Available in a range of sizes, you simply personalise the card on Moonpig’s website before either sending directly to your friend or loved one, or to yourself to handwrite before sending. The Groovy Chick cards don’t end here either, as there’s plenty of other designs to choose from.
As a sign of the times, Groovy Chic-inspired prints have even made their way onto face coverings. This simple design sees the character dressed in a far grungier look that we’re used to, with a striped tee adorned with a flame print, teal coloured hair and black flared jeans with a silver chain on the belt strap. The double layered face mask is sure to brighten up your commute. It has elastic ear straps for a comfortable fit, too.
A merch round-up wouldn’t be complete without some funky socks, and these are adorned with an officially licensed print of Groovy Chick herself. The duo set includes a pair in the staple pastel purple shade that’s often associated with Bang on The Door, and a navy blue marl pair with a repeated print of the character dancing the night away. Hearts, stars, flowers and Groovy Chick? You can’t go wrong.
This notebook would have been the envy of the class back in the day, alongside your Groovy Chick pencil case and water bottle, of course. With a bold print of GC in two different outfits on the front, the inside offers 120 pages of lined paper and the spiral spine feels totally retro. There’s a useful document holder inside the back cover too, which we’d definitely use to house all of our top secrets back in school.
