January is our least favourite month: Christmas is over and it’s invariably freezing. Fortunately, this gives us an excuse to snuggle up inside and candles are a great way of making things at least look warm and cosy. Soft candlelight can also really help set a mood, particularly when paired with a decorative holder. Our investigations unearthed the candle holders that give the cosiest glows, look the prettiest and keep up with the latest home decor trends.

Verdict

It’s hard to beat the stunning oyster-coloured hurricane from Within for luxe-looking home décor. It gets our vote for looks and the fact that it’s large enough to double-up as a vase, so it’s really two vessels in one. If you’re on a budget, Wilko offers a tempting, bargain alternative with its silver mosaic offering. If money’s no object, Black Orchid London’s tealight holders a super-stylish and our pick for create a romantic atmosphere, while Kenneth Turner’s stag design is best for those wanting something a little quirkier.
