Police have charged a man with three counts of murder following the attacks in Nottingham which left three dead.

Students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both aged 19, and Ian Coates, 65, were all fatally stabbed in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Valdo Calocane, aged 31, of no fixed address, is also charged with three counts of attempted murder.

He will appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

Chief Constable Kate Meynell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “These charges are a significant development and arise as a result of our thorough investigation into these horrific incidents that occurred in our city.

“Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all those affected by these attacks, and we will continue to provide support and reassurance.”

The University of Nottingham said in a statement on Thursday: “We are devastated that the suspect is a former University of Nottingham student. The police have confirmed that this is not believed to be connected with the attack.

Thousands turned out to pay tribute to two 19-year-old students and a school caretaker who were brutally killed in a knife and van rampage.

A vigil at the city’s Market Square heard the families of each victim take to the stage to pay tribute to their loved ones, while local leaders called for unity in the wake of the deadly attacks.

Aspiring doctor Grace O’Malley-Kumar and history student Barnaby Webber were found Tuesday morning with fatal knife wounds at 4.04am on Ilkeston Road.

The three victims of a knife and van rampage in Nottingham will be honoured by cricketers on day one of the men’s Ashes test as police continue to question a suspect.

England and Australia will wear black armbands on Friday after thousands of people gathered in Nottingham‘s Old Market Square to pay their respects to Grace O’Malley-Kumar, Barnaby Webber and Ian Coates - who were all fatally stabbed in Tuesday’s attacks.

Talented 19-year-old students Ms O’Malley-Kumar and Mr Webber were found stabbed to death in Ilkeston Road at around 4am on Tuesday.

Dedicated school caretaker Mr Coates, 65, was then found dead in Magdala Road after his van was allegedly stolen by the suspect.

Nottinghamshire Police said detectives were granted a further 36 hours to quiz a former University of Nottingham student after he was tasered and arrested on suspicion of murder.

All three victims have been remembered for their love of sport as tributes told of how Ms O’Malley-Kumar had played cricket for the Essex U15 team, Mr Webber had played the sport for his school and local clubs and Mr Coates had been a lifelong Nottingham Forest fan.

The heartbroken mothers of the two students urged the city to “hold no hate” at the emotional vigil in Nottingham on Thursday.

Father of student killed in Nottingham rampage is hero doctor who saved lives of teens stabbed in gang attack

The father of a victim of the Nottingham attacks is a hero doctor who saved three teens’ lives after a gang attack in Essex.

Grace O’Malley-Kumar, 19, was brutally stabbed to death alongside her friend Barnaby Webber, 19, as they walked home from a night out in Nottingham at 4am on Tuesday.

Another man, Ian Coates, 65, was also fatally stabbed and it is believed the suspect, who is now in custody, stole his van.

Three others were then injured after the suspect allegedly ran people down in the vehicle.

Grace’s parents are both doctors and it has been revealed that her father, Dr Sajoy Kumar, saved the lives of three teens who were knifed in 2009.

He was even awarded an MBE in 2011 for his efforts, The Sun reports.

The incident happened at the Larkshall Medical Centre in Chingford, causing the surgery to be closed after a major incident was declared.

Two of the victims, aged 15 and 16, were knifed in the chest while the third, aged 17, was stabbed in the abdomen.

At the time, Dr Kumar told the press: “We thought the two guys might have collapsed lungs because they were having trouble breathing, and they were really scared and in a state of emotion.”

The suspect in the Nottingham knife and van attacks is a former student of the University of Nottingham, the institution said in a statement.

The suspect allegedly killed three people in a brutal knife attack and then ran over three others with a stolen van.

According to multiple reports, the suspect was born in Guinea-Bissau, a country on West Africa’s coast.

He was arrested on Tuesday, following a 90-minute rampage in the early hours when two 19-year-old university students and a 65-year-old man were killed.

Pensioner came face to face with suspect behind Nottingham killings who tried to break into his home

A pensioner came face to face with a man suspected to be behind the triple murders in Nottingham as he attempted to break into his bedroom.

The resident of the care home on Mapperley Road told The Independent that he “punched” his glass bay window and added: “No one’s coming in my room.”

CCTV shows a man peering through the ground floor window before being shooed away by a staff member. The incident happened at around 4am and form part of a series of deadly incidents across Nottingham.

England and Australia cricket players hold minute’s silence for victims

England and Australia’s players stood for a minutes silence in honour of the victims of the Nottingham attack ahead of the start of play of the first Ashes Test cricket match.

Cricketers from both teams wore black armbands to “show solidarity” as they took the field today.

The two 19-year-old victims, Grace Kumar and Barnaby Webber, were keen sportsman.

Edgbaston was told Ms O’Malley-Kumar and Mr Webber were “widely respected in cricketing communities”.

Barnaby had been selected for Nottingham University’s cricket team, while Grace had played cricket for her local team in Essex.
