Brighton and Hove Albion’s super-subs stunned Premier League champions Liverpool as the Seagulls kept their faint hopes of a European spot alive with a thrilling 3-2 win on Monday night.

Conor Bradley celebrated his new Liverpool contract by setting up Harvey Elliott’s opening goal inside ten minutes, but Brighton responded well and deservedly levelled when Yasin Ayari finished off a fine move.

Liverpool were ahead again moments before half time as Dominik Szoboszlai's cross from the angle snuck over the head of Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

After the break, Mohamed Salah missed a glorious chance to equal the record for Premier League goal involvements in a single season as he turned wide from just six yards after being set up by Cody Gakpo.

Kaoru Mitoma came off the bench to equalise again after Alisson had saved from Danny Welbeck, with the winger controlling a rising ball to finish the rebound.

And another substitute, Jack Hinshelwood, also played his part to score the winning goal two minutes after his introduction as Brighton moved up to eighth place in the table.

Jeremie Frimpong set for Liverpool medical as deal edges closer

Jeremie Frimpong is set to join Liverpool, providing the Bayer Leverkusen right-back passes a medical.

The Netherlands international has agreed personal terms and is expected to sign a five-year deal as Liverpool will make him the replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

They are set to trigger the €35m release clause in his contract with the 2024 Bundesliga champions and make him the biggest buy of Arne Slot’s reign so far, at almost £30m.

Liverpool also awarded Conor Bradley a new four-year contract, which the Northern Ireland international signed on Saturday, as they plan for life after Alexander-Arnold, who rejected a lucrative new deal and will instead move to Real Madrid.

Mohamed Salah on verge of equalling Premier League record

Mohamed Salah needs just one more goal involvement to equal the all-time record for a single Premier League campaign.

Salah’s next goal involvement will see him level the competition's overall best of 47 by Andrew Cole in 1993-94 and Alan Shearer in 1994-95 across 42 matches.

He already has the 38-game record, with 28 goals and 18 assists, and Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says it would have been difficult to keep him out of the team as he chases more records!

Mohamed Salah: ‘Liverpool fans were wrong to boo Trent Alexander-Arnold’

Mohamed Salah joined the backing of Trent Alexander-Arnold when he revealed to Gary Neville that he was “surprised” to hear the 26-year-old booed and told Gary Neville that he hopes the reception will be different for his final two games of the season.

“Absolutely,” Salah replied when asked if he was saddened by the reception. “I was surprised because it is not how we react as Liverpool fans. We shouldn’t react this way with anyone. We always appreciate the people who came here, even if it was for six months.

“Imagine someone who gave his all for 20 years. It shouldn’t be like this and I hope it will change in the next game — Brighton or the last game of the season — because he deserves a farewell.”

Alexander-Arnold boos a 'step too far', says Carragher

Jamie Carragher said he understood why sections of Liverpool supporters wanted to express their anger towards Trent Alexander-Arnold but added that booing players while they are on the pitch is a “step too far”.

Carragher, who was at Liverpool for his entire career, explained on Sky Sports that fans were hurt by Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave but said he was disappointed to see them booing during the game.

Arne Slot does not regret playing Alexander-Arnold last week

Arne Slot said he would be prepared to play Trent Alexander-Arnold again this season after the departing Liverpool vice-captain was booed by some fans at Anfield last week.

“The thing I consider is I want to win a game of football and if we think we can win with Trent, I owe it to his team-mates and to the fans, because they (Liverpool) hired me to win as many games of football as possible,” said Slot.

“And if I think there’s a better chance of winning with Trent, then I will (pick him).

“If I think it’s a distraction or whatever can happen for us not to play a good game of football, then I might make another decision.”

Arne Slot enjoys holiday as he turns mind to next season

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was on the beach this week - quite literally, as he headed to party in Ibiza after the Reds won the Premier League.

Did you see me this week on social media?” the Dutchman quipped at his press conference. "But even if you are celebrating over there, it doesn't mean the whole day you aren't thinking about something else.

"But a larger part of my mind now is already into next season, than it would have been had the next two games still been decisive for us.

"It's a normal situation that my thoughts, if I'm on the couch tonight, are more into next season than they would have been if the games were still very important."

How Crystal Palace’s FA Cup win impacts the race for Europe

Brighton remain in the hunt for a top-eight finish, with a return to European football still on the cards for the Seagulls.

Crystal Palace’s FA Cup win has changed the picture only slightly, as the Eagles are heading into the Europa League regardless of where they finish in the Premier League.
