Computers: Feedback: Mega-price
I HAVE read many articles on the CD-rom Oxford English Dictionary and I am persuaded that I want it.
However, your article (11 February) lacked a comment on its most remarkable feature - the price. At over pounds 500, it is only likely to be bought by libraries and academic institutions. While it is undoubtedly 'worth' the money for the amount of information it contains and the work that has gone into research and writing it over decades, it is just not affordable.
There is a potentially huge market if OUP will take the bold step of reducing the price by perhaps 80 per cent, in line with other CD-rom reference works.
