Cordless vacuum cleaners have skyrocketed in popularity in recent years owing to their ease of use.

They’re lightweight, run on rechargeable batteries so you can move easily around the home, and free you from the faff of tangled cords.

While features vary between models, the technology behind cordless vacuums has come a long way and many are fitted with some of the latest innovations, such as headlights so you can see under furniture, filtration systems and battery status indicators.

However, many top models that boast these technical features don’t come cheap, with price tags upward of £150, and some even nearing £600.

But now, thanks to Aldi’s famous Specialbuys range, you can get your hands on a vacuum that meets all these specifications and more for just £79.99.

If you’re wary of buying a household appliance from an unknown brand, fear not, because this one is made by the original vacuum cleaner brand, Hoover, which was founded in 1908 and has since become a leader in the floor-care industry.

Ideal for everyday cleaning, it promises to keep your floors free from dirt, debris and pet hair and has already received more than 30 five-star reviews on the Aldi website, with one shopper calling it “excellent” and another saying they bought theirs to replace a Dyson, which are eye-wateringly more expensive.

If you want to get your hands one, you’ll have to be quick, as we suspect it won't stay in stock for long. It is available to pre-order now and launches online this Sunday 28 March. However, because it is an online exclusive, you won’t be able to pick one up in-store.

You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

We loved the Dyson V11 absolute (£599.99, Currys.co.uk), which was selected as the best buy in our review and, while it isn’t cheap, our tester praised it for having zero flaws, that it is sure to be a worthwhile investment.

“Dyson’s ergonomic V11 is mind blowingly good and has seriously raised the bar in the world of cordless vacs. It effortlessly sucks up debris of all sizes (from fine dust to spilt cereal) on all floor types (with no need to change heads) and the filters mean it’s particularly wowsers for allergy sufferers,” they said.

Charging time is four-and-a-half hours, which will give you a full hour’s use on the minimum setting, and it even comes with an LED screen to tell you how much time you have left.
