OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

From the hotel you can explore elegant Elounda by car or boat; you can also stroll into nearby villages where you'll find tavernas and cafés to experience Cretan life. Nearby is the town of Agios Nikolaos, the epitome of a Cretan town that also has a beautiful lagoon. You can hire a traditional caique, an attractive Greek fishing boat, to explore the majestic Mirabello Bay in style.

By plane: direct flights to Heraklion take around 4 hours from London. It's about an hour's drive to the hotel. Free parking available. Book flights to Heraklion.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The hotel is slickly-designed with natural materials used wherever possible, from wooden tables and floorboards and pebble dash walls to stone floors, raffia beach umbrellas and woven bread baskets; it's craft-meets-chic and aesthetically pleasing, clean-lined and with comfort in mind.

THE FACILITIES

It is a sprawling resort but buggies are on standby to give lifts; there is a choice of pools and a great outdoor spot where you'll find weights and mats for sports sessions with spectacular mountain and sea views. We loved the mobility session with Pilates and yoga techniques combined.

BED AND BATH

There is a huge range of accommodation from suites to villas, but you can expect privacy and frequent access to the sweeping panoramic views of Elounda Bay. Many have a private pool or jacuzzi and flowers and foliage perk up the scenery; state of the art appliances blend with luxurious trappings.

FOOD AND DRINK

Four restaurants offer quality produce with a Cretan flavour. Blend serves sultry steaks with a huge array of sides, and we loved dining beachfront in Topos 1910; with sparkling sea views we delved into a rich traditional octopus and pasta dish and as it was Cretan night, dancers delighted us in local costume.

Topos 1910: seafood with sea views, combining traditional cuisine with modern gastronomy.

Yaosai: Asian fusion restaurant and bar. Open daily for lunch (adults-only) and dinner.

Blend: trendy poolside steakhouse restaurant. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
