OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The hotel is secluded in a romantic mountain façade, located in Elounda, traditionally a fishing town. Although fishing boats can be seen dotted by the coast, it's become more of a tourist attraction whilst retaining its Cretan charm. With picturesque houses, mountains for hiking, a crystal clear sea to swim in and historic monuments to explore, it's certainly a destination. Plaka is a tranquil Cretan village worth having a stroll around, there are a handful of taverners and cafés to tempt you too.

By plane: direct flights to Heraklion take around 4 hours from London. It's an hour's drive to the hotel. Free parking available. Book flights to Heraklion.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

As you walk into the large, breezy reception with whitewashed walls, a marble desk, modern glass ceiling lights and a feature wall covered with traditional terracotta Minoan storage jars, the theme is set for the rest of the property: minimalist, neutral tones and natural materials with touches of Cretan culture.

THE FACILITIES

The two incredibly long infinity pools offer outstanding views of magical Mirabello Bay, but if that's not enough, most rooms have their own pool plus sun loungers sharing the same view but with privacy. Staff are eager to please and we didn't wait long for anything to arrive. We loved the funicular sweeping up the mountain to transport guests between levels.
