Make bedtime a little easier by investing in some sheets the kids will want to climb into every night. Whether they love animals or outer space, we’ve found some fun bedding that’s also comfy to sleep in. And everyone appreciates soft fabric to cuddle up to at night, so we’ve picked out sheets that are made of cotton – or at least have a large percentage of cotton in them.
Toddlers need a bed set to snooze in too, so we’ve also found a few mini duvet covers that will look good in any nursery. And you don’t necessarily need to spend a small fortune for quality sheets; we’ve found ones to suit all budgets.
1. Sleepy Monster Teal: £44.99, Sleepy Monster
This brand has come up with a lovely idea to encourage kids to make their bed. A sleepy monster is printed on the duvet cover and pillow case – one side shows him awake and the other asleep. Little ones will love turning over their bed set each morning to wake monster or at night to put him to sleep, and you’re left with a well-made bed. Made from 100 per cent cotton, it’s available in teal, red and black.
2. Noé & Zoë Black Stars and Stripes Bedding Set: £70, This Modern Life
Berlin-based Noé & Zoë has a stylish collection of children’s bedding and accessories, from plump cloud scatter cushions to cotton wash bags. Our favourite bed set though is this hand-stamped star design that reverses to stripes when your little one fancies a change. There’s a standard size single duvet cover, pillow case and cushion case (40cmx40xm) included and it’s made from 100 per cent organic cotton, so feels soft against the skin. It’s a beautiful set that kids will enjoy wriggling into at the end of the day, and will keep mum happy style-wise.
3. Eatsleepdoodle World Map Duvet Cover Single: £39.50, Not On The High Street
From backpacks to tablecloths, this brand designs products you can doodle on and wash off when you’re ready to start over again. Little ones will love getting creative before bed with this around-the-world themed duvet cover. It comes with a pack of 10 double-ended wash-out fabric pens so they can colour in countries and animals without making any permanent mess. You have to buy the matching pillow case separately (£10.50) if you want a full set and the duvet cover is 140cmx200cm, which is slightly bigger than a standard single duvet cover. It’s a fun way to get the kids using their imagination though and there’s a notebook version to doodle on if you’d prefer.
4. Lulu & Nat Grey Elephant Toddler Cot Bed Duvet Set: £53, Lulu & Nat
Inspired by colourful fabrics from India, homeware store Lulu & Nat designs high quality, hand-printed bed sets. We love this unisex, toddler-sized version that has a grey mummy and baby elephant in a block print. It’s made from 100 per cent Indian cotton and has a hidden button fastening. The soft material means your tiny tot will be comfortable and cosy, while mums will love that you can pop it in the washing machine and tumble dry when dirty. The set comes with a duvet cover (120cmx150cm) and a pillow case. Also available in pink and blue.
5. Next Space Explorer Glow in the Dark Bed Set: £20, Next
Send them off to space with this themed bed set from high street favourite Next. Great for little explorers, one side is covered with constellations, planets, moons and rockets, while the reverse is covered in stars. It also glows in the dark, which is a great way to encourage lights out at bed time, but don’t worry it’s not bright enough to keep them awake. It’s a polyester/cotton mix that comes with a pillow case and duvet cover. There’s also matching wallpaper and curtains available, which is useful if you’re looking to redecorate the whole room.
6. Tobias & The Bear Mr Lazy Single Duvet Set: £65, Tobias & The Bear
We love the retro-looking Mr Lazy print on this duvet set from British brand Tobias & The Bear. Taking us back to our childhood, we can all relate to the Mr Men and Little Miss characters designed by Roger Hargreaves. Coming with a standard size single duvet cover and pillow case, it’s made from jersey cotton and comes in a stylish, ethically sourced cotton bag, making it a great gift. There’s also a baby blanket version available for tiny tots to enjoy.
7. George Princess Dress Bedding Range: £9, Asda
There aren’t many little ones who don’t enjoy dressing up as a prince or princess, which is why we love this bed set that turns you into sleeping beauty. The duvet cover is decorated with a princess-style ball gown and the pillow case has a matching crown, making it a great set for getting them into bed with eyes shut. And at only £9, mums will love it too. George has a great range of reasonably priced kids’ bedding if this one isn’t for you.
8. Tesco Dinosaur Single Duvet Set: £10, Tesco
If they’re into dinosaurs, this bed set from Tesco is the winner. From a T-rex to a stegosaurus, they’ll get to know names (they’re printed all over one side), while the reverse is decorated with dinosaur skeletons and foot prints. There’s a single duvet cover and pillow case included and it’s another cotton/polyester mix, which means it’s still fairly soft to touch. At only £10, it’s also excellent value for money.
9. Ferm Living Cloud Cot Bed Bedding: £53.95, Lullabuy
Based in Copenhagen, Ferm Living designs Scandi-style homeware, including a range especially for kids. We picked out this cloud print baby-sized bed set but this design also comes in junior and adult sizes if you want the whole family to match. There’s a pink version available too. The pastel colours will add some tranquillity to your tiny tot’s nursery and the Scandinavian design is right on trend. It’s made from 100 per cent organic cotton, making it soft to touch and has a zip opening to avoid fiddly buttons. Coming in a matching tote bag, it would also make a great gift.
10. Marks & Spencer Flamingo Print Bedset: From £15, Marks & Spencer
Flamingo prints are everywhere at the moment, so why not get the kids involved with this fun bed set? The pillow case and duvet cover both have funky flamingos on a pink dotted background on one side, while the reverse side is plain white. Kids will love its tropical theme and it’s fairly soft to touch (made from 50 per cent cotton). You can also chuck it in the washing machine and tumble dryer, making it easy to clean. M&S has a great range of kids’ bedding, so if you aren’t keen on this design there are plenty more options to choose from.
The Verdict: Kids’ bedding
We love Sleepy Monster’s bed set as it’s a fun way to get kids making their own bed. Next’s glow in the dark covers are also a fun option and great value, while Lulu & Nat’s elephant print covers are our pick for toddlers.
