Horse racing tips today:

For today's horse racing tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the flat racing meetings at Nottingham and Newcastle with three selections now online.

As always, you’ll find the most up-to-date odds at these betting sites, but don’t sleep on our tipster’s predictions as those prices could soon be gobbled up by the betting public.

Odds stated are correct at the time of publishing, but check out today's racecards for all the latest movements.

#ad. 18+. Gamble Responsibly. gambleaware.org. New Customers only. Must have a minimum of 3 bets of £10 or more on separate events at odds of evens (2.0) or bigger on first day. First day losses equals all settled stakes less all returns. T&C's apply.

16:30 Nottingham – Kessaar Power – 1pt @ 12/1

Kessaar Power disappointed at Windsor last time out and needs to bounce back to form. I think it’s easy enough to forgive that, however, as he went too hard earlier than was ideal and may not have appreciated the sharp nature of the track being combined with ground that was on the quick side.

Conditions are likely to dry up by race time but a genuinely good surface would be fine and he had been performing to a high level prior to Windsor. Connections have given him a couple of months off since and it’s possible he had gone over the top, and will be happier when freshened up.

Nottingham’s track should suit him and it’ll be even better if he could get a solo in-front. That’s not impossible unless there’s a change of plan with some of the others and would enhance his claims. We have to take the fitness on trust but it’s factored into the price. I’d bet at 9/1 or bigger.

17:25 Newcastle – Jewel Maker – 1pt @ 9/1

It’s a while since Jewel Maker has managed to get his head in-front and he seems to be going through the motions at present. On the positive side of things, his mark is sliding thanks to his runs on turf and he returns to the All-Weather off a 15lb lower mark than his last spin in this code.

As a two-time course winner over the mile, running at Newcastle poses no issue to him and the only worry I’d have is the speed. He’s a strong traveller who wants to be ridden cold and when they jog along, he tends to over-race. That would limit his chance but there may be a reasonable pace on here.

The ground has lessened his ability on recent starts at Carlisle and then Haydock, so I wouldn’t judge him too harshly on any of those, and he had previously shaped with encouragement in a few fast-ground handicaps that didn’t pan out to suit. If all worked out, he’d be capable of beating these.

19:30 Newcastle – El Jad – 1pt @ 12/1

El Jad has a lazy way of going and he’s an exposed 15-race maiden, so you would be right to wonder why I’m bothering to side with him. Effectively, I’m wondering whether he has secretly found a bit of improvement since returning from 10 months off the track and racing at a mile may bring it out.

His last outing was poor but turf isn’t his bag, so strike a line through that. It’s the previous two runs that make the most appeal, one over the extended mile at Wolverhampton and one over 7f here, both of which provide hope for him being better than the bare form is suggesting.

On the first occasion, he was wide early and did too much in a well-run race, whilst the other start was over a trip I feel is an absolute bare minimum. They were two of the best timefigures he has posted and the stiff mile could allow him to do even better if Cam Hardie gets the fractions right.
