Horse racing tips today:

For today's horse racing tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the flat racing meetings at Haydock and Newmarket with three selections now online.

As always, you’ll find up-to-date odds at these horse racing betting sites, but don’t sleep on our tipster’s predictions as those prices could soon be moved in by the betting public.

Odds stated are correct at the time of publishing, but check out today's racecards for all the latest movements.

#ad. 18+. Gamble Responsibly. gambleaware.org. New Customers only. Must have a minimum of 3 bets of £10 or more on separate events at odds of evens (2.0) or bigger on first day. First day losses equals all settled stakes less all returns. T&C's apply.

13:50 Newmarket – Ghostwriter – 1pt @ 9/2

Ghostwriter impressed when making a winning debut on the July course but was even better when following up under a 6lb penalty at Ascot three weeks ago. Some nicely-bred horses were in opposition there and only the runner-up was able to get within six-lengths of him.

The time figure backed up the visual impression and he seems like he’ll thrive over an extra furlong as well. This is obviously a much deeper race and he’s taking on some promising types from powerful yards, but he looks an uncomplicated ride and should be bang there at the finish.

15:15 Haydock – Chairmanoftheboard – 1pt @ 14/1

Chairmanoftheboard has gone a couple of years without success but the last win came on his sole visit to Haydock and I’m wondering whether the return to this C&D will get him over the line again. It was on soft ground as well and he shouldn’t mind the underfoot conditions at all.

His last run came on absolutely atrocious ground in the Stewards’ Cup and he’s better than that, but may have had a problem given he has been off for two months since. Before that, he had been shaping well and there’s enough in place to suggest that he’s overpriced at 14/1.

15:40 Newmarket – Akhu Najla – 1pt e/w @ 28/1

Akhu Najla is very lightly-raced but has showcased a high level of ability on a few occasions and could be worth chancing in first-time blinkers. His last run at York was on the poorer side of things but the finishers never got properly involved and he was too far back to make an impact.

His previous run at Ascot was encouraging and it was another race in which those at the front set things up for themselves. Despite that, he finished well for fourth and was beaten little more than a length. I think he’ll enjoy the extra yardage and if headgear does the trick, he can go well.
