From face oils to mists, serums to cleanser, it’s the perfect opportunity to update your bathroom shelf (The Independent )

If you’re into skincare, we’re sure you’ll have already heard of Caroline Hirons. With more than two decades of experience as a qualified advanced aesthetician, she’s also a bestselling author, and is well-loved for her no-nonsense approach to all things beauty.

During the pandemic, Hirons also founded Beauty Backed, a charity organisation that supports beauty professionals who have been impacted by lockdown restrictions. The charity runs workshops, covering financial recovery, networking, digital skills and current Covid guidance, as well as providing funding to help businesses survive.

Her straight-talking skincare reviews and advice has earned her a loyal following on her eponymous blog, Instagram and Twitter.

As big fans of the beauty expert, when she recommends a product, our ears perk up. So we were excited to see her team up with beauty retailer Space NK to pick her top 10 wishlist, a collection of products she highly rates, from serums to eye creams.

Not only that, all the products and brands included have 20 per cent off when you enter the code “CHWISHLIST” at checkout, so there are some serious luxury bargains to be found.

Here at IndyBest, we’ve also tried and tested some of these beauty buys too, so can testify to Hirons’s top pick after putting them through their paces.

Tan-Luxe super glow body hyaluronic self-tan serum

tan-luxe.jpg

Hirons is a huge fan of Tan Luxe’s offering, saying “this tanning serum doesn’t leave your skin dried out, like so many can. Colour builds naturally and doesn’t go patchy.”

Our Deputy IndyBest Editor is an avid fake tanner so has tried every formula around, and shares Hirons’s love for Tan-Luxe’s serum. “The perfect hybrid between skincare and tanning, the lightweight gel formula leaves skin hydrated and supple and imparts a gorgeous natural glow to the skin,” she says.

“We recommend this for dry skin types who usually struggle with fake tans going patchy, as the hydrating powerhouse hyaluronic acid will nourish the skin while delivering even coverage. Our only gripe is the price – at £35, it’s not something you’d want to liberally lather yourself in every day, but we love using it in between tanning to keep our glow for longer.”

Like Hirons, we’re also huge fans of the face version of this serum (£35, Spacenk.com), as it gives a natural colour to the skin that doesn’t go patchy, cling to dry areas or highlight texture.

Kate Somerville kateceuticals lifting eye cream

kate somerville.jpg

“Another brilliant eye cream from Kate Somerville, this is perfect if you are concerned about signs of ageing around the eye area, especially dryness and lines,” says Hirons.

We put every product from Kate Somerville new KateCeuticals anti-aging range to the test and were left impressed by the eye cream too.

“This eye cream is beautifully light, so it won’t cause congestion such as milia around the eye area. It’s slightly thicker in texture than the serum but absorbs into skin just as completely and swiftly without any stickiness,” our reviewer said.

They were quick to see results too, with our tester adding “our usual puffiness under the eyes was noticeably reduced after just a week of use, opening up the eyes and making us look healthier and more awake.”

Sunday Riley juno antioxidant + superfood face oil

sunday riley oil.jpg

According to the skincare expert, this is “a one-size-fits-all facial oil” as it’s unscented, therefore suited to the most sensitised skins. “Juno is a beautiful blend of omega oils with the added benefits of antioxidants and amino acids.”

As for how to apply it, Hirons explains it can be worn alone, on top of your skincare or under your moisturiser and make-up.

If you’re looking for a solution to lacklustre skin, look no further than this face oil from Sunday Riley.

Taking a spot in our guide to the best face oils you need for your evening skincare routine, it’s a rich blend of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, cranberry, grape, carrot, cumin, broccoli and meadowfoam oil, along with amino acids and vitamin C.

According to our reviewer, it’s “a restorative, protecting pep-up for tired skin, we’d particularly recommend it for city-dwellers.”

Votary intense overnight mask

votary.jpg

The only mask on Hirons’s wishlist is this one from the plant-based brand, Votary.

“Perfect for when your skin needs a cashmere blanket without the heavy feeling of a thick cream. Wake up to dewy, soft skin,” she says.

We love it too, so much so it scored a spot in our guide to the best night creams for glowing skin in the morning.

Ideal for dry skin, we found despite its thick consistency melted into the skin beautifully to leave skin feeling silky soft.

“It combines water, aloe vera and moisturising glycerin with more nourishing oils than we can list here. We especially recommend it for dry or dehydrated skin; use it a few nights a week to compliment a lighter moisturiser, or every night, if your skin needs it,” said our reviewer.

Hourglass caution extreme lash mascara

mas-1.jpeg

Vegan make-up brand Hourglass has created a mascara that both Hirons and IndyBest reviewers can’t get enough of.

She says it’s “brilliant for a quick set of lashes and lasts well throughout the day. Great, buildable coverage.”

In our guide to the best mascaras to give volume, length and curl to your lashes it won the best buy award for its clump-free formula and easy to use brush.

“With a tapered bristle brush, it is easy to apply - with the fine ‘nib’ making it easy to reach even the fine lashes at the corners of the eyes. You can layer coat over coat depending on the level of drama required, and still your lashes will look soft and gorgeous. The pigment is a deep and winning black,” said our reviewer, who described it as “an exceptional all rounder”.

Plenaire rose jelly gentle make-up remover

plenaire.jpg

If there’s one thing to know about Hirons, it’s that properly removing make-up and cleansing the skin is a vital step in her regime.

She loves this rose-scented, jelly textured, gel cleanser saying, “It’s super light and gently removes your make-up without leaving the skin feeling stripped”, adding, “I also use it as a quick freshening cleanse in the mornings.”

You don’t need to tell us twice, this is already in our basket.

Summer Fridays cc me serum

summer fridays.jpg

Vitamin C is a must-have ingredient if you’re seeking a brighter complexion with a long list of benefits for the skin.

According to Hirons herself, this was one of her favourite products from 2020.

“This serum is loaded with multiple forms of vitamin C and niacinamide working as an antioxidant and as protection and repair from pigmentation,” she said.

Sunday Riley ceo vitamin C rich hydration

sunday riley cream.jpg

The second Sunday Riley product on her list, this moisturiser also makes use of the hero ingredient.

Hirons recommends this for summer, saying it’s perfect for lighter weather. “This is rich, but not greasy and absorbs beautifully. It can be used alone or on top of CEO serum or oil for a double whammy.”

Designed to suit all skin types, it’s ideal for a daily dose of brightening while tackling uneven skin tone and texture.

Odacité aloe + immortelle hydra-repair treatment mist

odacite.jpg

For longtime followers of Hirons, you’ll know the skincare expert strongly recommends a face mist to be sprayed liberally onto skin whenever it needs it most.

“I love a good facial spritz and these beautiful mists target your skin’s specific needs, whether you are dehydrated, dull or oily.”

We think this will be perfect for warmer weather too as it’ll offer a refreshing burst of moisture on a hot day.

Chantecaille just skin tinted moisturizer SPF15

chantecaille.jpg

“When you want your skin to look like its best version of itself, as opposed to ‘covered’, Chantecaille is your first port of call. Just skin is light enough to seem imperceptible but gives enough coverage when you want a fresh, dewy look,” says Hirons.

We’re all ears, especially with summer around the corner, where we’ll be keen to swap out our full coverage foundations for lighter textures.

Available in eight shades and housed in a handy tube that’s ideal for bringing with you on your next staycation, we predict this will become a summer staple.
