With Christmas over and 2024 here, the January blues can set in for many of us, but the best deals in the January sales deals make it a little more exciting. From John Lewis and Amazon to Lookfantastic and Coggles, all our favourite retailers are taking part, with thousands of discounts on everything we want and need.

Olaplex’s no.3 hair perfector needs little introduction. The cult hair product is a tried and tested fast track to healthier locks, and you can save 39 per cent on it right now, thanks to Amazon. Designed for weekly use, the treatment aims to repair the hair’s bonds, while improving the look and feel of split ends and strand damage. In their review of Olaplex no.3 hair perfector, our writer said: “We found it to be a really effective at-home solution, so much so, we’d go as far as to say it produced results that were far better than other at-home treatments we’ve used in the past.” The brand’s shampoo (was £28, now £19.95, Amazon.co.uk) has also been heavily reduced.
Shark stratos cordless stick vacuum cleaner: Was £499.99, now £358, Amazon.co.uk
This cordless vacuum cleaned up a treat in our review of the best vacuum cleaners, where it took the top spot. Our tester noted the powerful LED headlights and the appliance’s suction power, which was a dream when put to the test on both carpet and hardwood floors. The two hours of run-time was also an impressive feature, along with the anti-odour packs, which “make the floors smell as good as they look”, and the fact that nothing got caught in the brush while cleaning. What’s more, you can now hoover it up with a discount of nearly 30 per cent.

Promising to whip up meals in as little as 15 minutes, Ninja’s speedi rapid cooker is currently discounted by £100 in the brand’s January sale. Having launched early last year, the appliance does much more than air fry alone, boasting bells and whistles, with settings for baking, grilling, roasting and more. Big enough to cook four portions, it can fry with up to 75 per cent less fat than conventional frying methods, according to Ninja.

Want better sleep in 2024? A new mattress may be the answer, and you can now grab yourself a king-sized model for less than £1,400, thanks to Simba’s New Year sale. Discounted by 45 per cent, the hybrid luxe mattress has 10 layers, made up of different materials, including titanium aerocoil springs, high carbon steel aerocoil springs, foam and a wool-infused bamboo layer. If you’ve been waiting years for the Xbox Series X to come down in price, your time has come. With this Amazon deal, you can save more than 20 per cent on the next-generation console.

Here’s a great deal on the new iPhone 15 at Affordable Mobiles. Pay £42 per month on a 24-month contract and you’ll get a boosted 5G data allowance with Vodafone. The total contract cost (not including the usual mid-contract price increase) is £1,008 on a £799 phone, meaning you’re effectively paying £8.70 per month for 400GB of 5G data.

There are some excellent savings to be scooped up in the Everlane sale, with knitwear, tailoring, jackets and accessories reduced by up to 70 per cent. Leaning more towards an oversized fit, this alpaca cardigan is made with RWS-certified wool and recycled nylon blend, for stretch. The dark charcoal colourway is discounted by more than £130 but, if you want something a little funkier, it’s also available with similar discounts in several other colourways.

Tower’s air fryer is currently reduced by 41 per cent, and if you need further convincing, it landed a spot in our review of the best air fryers. It features an air fryer function, but it’s also suitable for baking, roasting, re-heating, grilling and more. There’s even a rotisserie setting that means you can roast a chicken in less than an hour. In our review, our writer noted that “steaks were just as delicious as sausages, kebabs and burgers too, and there was often enough room to slip some veg onto the shelf to cook a full meal as well.”

A SAD lamp can lift your mood and boost your energy levels, particularly in the winter when shorter, darker days can alter your mood. This SAD lamp was named the best budget option in our review of the best, and it’s now even more of a steal with a discount just shy of 40 per cent. In our review, our tester noted the stand, which enables you to “adjust it to portrait or landscape orientation”. The lamp was also light and compact, so they went on to recommend it for frequent travellers, and anyone working on a hybrid working schedule, as it’s “perfect for taking with you on the go”.

This cordless combi drill set comes complete with a carry case, 20 torque settings and two 18V batteries. It can be used on an array of materials and surfaces, including wood and metal, and there are screwdriver, drilling and impact drilling functions. Looking to smash fitness resolutions? A top-rated activity tracker might help you do just that. Luckily, Amazon has slashed the price of the Fitbit charge 6 by 15 per cent. A slightly older model, the Fitbit charge 5 is an IndyBest favourite, crowned the best overall in our review of top Fitbits. But before you start wondering if the original is an older model, it was actually given a high-tech upgrade last year. In our review of the new and improved styler, our tester pointed out that, unlike the previous version, the plate barrel feels “far less bulky”. Air fryers were one of last year’s most sought-after kitchen appliances and we predict they’ll only be more popular in 2024, so a saving of 31 per cent on one of the best brands is no small sum. We tested a bigger version from the brand, the foodi air fryer AF400UK, and were left incredibly impressed. “Chicken, chips and chopped-up veg cooked much faster and ended up a lot tastier and crispier compared to when cooking in the other air fryer models. So, it’s safe to say it has us sold,” shared our tester.

This Armani luminous silk foundation is one of our favourite sale finds and it was named the best foundation for mature skin. “After applying Giorgio Armani’s luminous silk foundation with just one layer of coverage, our face looked completely flawless, as the product covered everything we wanted it to,” noted our tester.

What dates are the January sales?
The New Year sales kicked off on 1 January, with retailers clearing old stock for the new year. Some retailers started early, on the day after Boxing Day (see Amazon), while many stores have continued their offers.
Are the January sales cheaper than Black Friday?
According to Money Saving Expert, Black Friday tends to see the strongest offers of the year, owing to blanket discounts, side-wide codes and “up to” sales off everything. It’s difficult to compare the January sales to other sale periods, as it tends to be retailers trying to shift surplus stock, rather than store-wide discounts.
What do people buy most of in January?
The January sales tend to see people stocking up on household and health products for the new year ahead, as well as cheap tech, power tools and offers across clothing.
