The supermarket has excelled with its offering of sweet and savoury treats

Mother’s Day is creeping up on us – this year it falls on Sunday 14 March – and will be a little different to your usual celebrations (much like everything this past year).

Perhaps you usually just send a card, or you go all out and gift her something you know she’s going to love.

But, if you’d ordinarily be taking the mother figure in your life out for the day, you might be scratching your head at how you can replicate this given the current lockdown stipulating restaurants and bars must remain closed. We’ve got the perfect solution though.

While you might not be able to go out for afternoon tea, thankfully you can now get one delivered directly to her door to make Mothering Sunday that extra bit special. Because after the year we’ve had, there doesn’t seem a more appropriate time to shower the queen in your life with love.

Morrisons has come to the rescue by launching its affordable afternoon tea box just in time for the big day, and we think it will make the perfect gift, whether you’re spending it together or apart.

The supermarket has given consideration to everything, and as you’d expect, all the classics have been included – from sandwiches and crisps to sultana scones and cakes.

If your mother figure is the queen of cream tea, there’s no better way to spoil her. It really is quite a tea-riffic treat.

You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

Morrisons afternoon tea box

This box contains everything the queen in your life needs to enjoy and recreate the traditional afternoon tea experience at home. Think classic ham and cheese and egg mayo sandwich fillings and crisps for their savoury fix. There are also sweet treats galore – sultana scones (there’s a four-pack, so plenty to go around), cherry Bakewell tarts and Mr Kipling chocolate slices.

Food aside, she’ll be able to quench her thirst with sparkling Sicilian lemonade and tea (milk has also been included, we told you everything has been thought about). And if you want to make it that bit extra special, there’s the option to upgrade your box to contain prosecco, which will only set you back an extra £5 – a no brainer. If you’re not together, why not order one for yourself too and enjoy it over Zoom?

It’s a special treat that says “I love you” and is likely to add a little extra brightness to the lockdown celebrations.
