Wildfires leave sky thick with smoke as 25,000 forced to flee western Canada

Raging wildfires spreading across Alberta have left the sky thick with smoke as 25,000 were forced to flee western Canada.

The Canadian province of Alberta has more than 100 active wildfires.

Canada’s main oil-producing province declared a provincial state of emergency due to wildfires on Saturday, 7 May, shutting in around 2% of the country’s production.

Alberta’s premier Danielle Smith has described the wildfires as an "unprecedented crisis".
