Verisure has everything you’d expect from a smart home security system, as well as some trademark features, such as its ZeroVision alarm that can release a ‘fog’ designed to deter burglars. It’s important to note though, that this feature can only be activated by a professional at the NSI certified Alarm Receiving Centre.
As Verisure’s packages are bespoke, a technican will vist your home for an assessment. This visit will provide you with a tailored package and a full explanation of the system and how it works, so that you get the best use out of it. Add-ons can be discussed with the technician on the day of the evaluation – which you need to book over the phone – and quoted as a package. You’ll also need to pay a £100 (fully refundable) deposit to book.
Everything can be managed through the Verisure app and, for £32 a month, Verisure will monitor your home. Maintenance is covered in the subscription fee; if anything breaks it will get repaired quickly so you don’t lose any surveillance. Likewise, any batteries will also get replaced by a technician when they reach 30 per cent power, but you will get notified when this needs to happen. It’s this level of detail that scores Verisure top marks on TrustPilot, so whether Verisure is worth it, really depends on your home’s needs and budget.

The Surveillance Kit is a small-sized kit, so you shouldn’t expect it to cover your entire home. However, it does a pretty good job of guarding the outside of your home with a video doorbell and a weatherproof outdoor camera.
Both the video doorbell and outdoor camera stream live HD video, detect motion and provide a two-way communication function – ideal for conversing with delivery drivers when you’re away from home. We think a standout feature of the cameras is their splash resistant design – the video doorbell has an IP54 rating and the outdoor camera has an IP65 rating. However, like many smart security systems, more components can be added if required.
In addition to the affordable price-tag of The Surveillance Kit, all of Hey’s security devices are subscription-free with self-monitoring as the only option. There is no professional monitoring offered, instead, all of its features are available for users to access via its mobile app. You’ll have full control over your cameras in the app from adjusting motion sensor range to dimming floodlights. You can also view live streams from both cameras, receive notifications, and view recorded clips at any time – footage can be saved on an SD card or cloud storage.
The Hey! Surveillance Kit provides homeowners with an affordable option for home security and is a great option as a starter kit. While it doesn’t have the capabilities of bigger, more expensive systems, what it does offer is effective and easy to manage. We chose Ring’s Alarm and Indoor Camera Pack as our best for DIY installation thanks to its self-adhesive devices and detailed instruction videos. The process takes around thirty minutes, and the devices can be easily mounted using the included adhesive strips or screws, depending on your preference. They also offer a professional installation service to be purchased via Amazon.
Ring’s Alarm and Indoor Camera Pack includes five pieces of equipment designed to monitor the inside of your home. All devices are connected via the Base Station, which will need to be plugged into a power source and connected to your wifi. Also included is a motion detector that can be wall-mounted, a contact sensor to be installed on doors or windows, and a keypad for arming and disarming your system.
The Ring Indoor Camera offers full HD video quality, live view, night vision, and two-way audio, allowing you to communicate with anyone in your home. The camera also has motion detection and customisable privacy settings.
Our favourite piece of equipment in this package is the range extender. It allows you to increase the signal from your Base Station to reach alarm components that might be otherwise out of range.
The system integrates seamlessly with the Ring mobile app, which allows you to monitor and control the security system remotely. An optional Ring Protect Plus subscription covers all your home devices and allows access to its 24/7 Assisted Monitoring. Among other things, this sends alerts to your emergency contacts if your burglar alarm is triggered. Departing guests can forget to turn off the coffee maker, lamps, or TV; however, the Wyze plug means you can switch appliances off remotely, potentially lessening your energy bills. And if your guests arrive after dark, the three motion-detection night lights can be linked together to light a path – particularly helpful for stairs or nighttime visits to the bathroom.
Installation is quick and easy, even for DIY novices, with all the necessary fixing components included.
In the UK, Wyze only offers self-monitoring, and there’s no access to Google Assistant or Alexa, which our researchers hope Wyze will address in the near future.
