Americans are racing across the country to make it home for the holidays before a "historic" Artic blast hits.

Around 200 million people are under extreme weather alerts, according to the NWS, sparking fear of travel chaos.

What's being described as a "bomb cyclone" is expected to hit the states by Thursday night (22 December) plunging the mercury even further.
