Snake’s ancestors may have had four legs ‘to hold their prey’

Snake’s ancestors may have had four small legs that it used to grip their prey as scientists have found fossils of a snake-like creature that meets this description.

However, some debate this idea – and say that these fossils are part of another species entirely: Dolichosaurus. These were marine lizards with long bodies like snakes, but lived underwater and had four limbs that they could use to swim or crawl along the seabed.
