Zelensky visits Bucha on one-year anniversary of Russian liberation
Volodymyr Zelensky called for Bucha to become a “symbol of justice” on the one-year anniversary of Russia’s withdrawal from the town.
The Ukrainian president visited the martyred town now synonymous with war crimes allegations to mark a year of its liberation.
During his visit, Zelensky met 85-year-old Hryhorii Zamohylnyi who stayed at home during the hostilities and the occupation of Bucha.
Ukraine estimates that around 1,400 civilians died around Bucha, and 637 in the town itself.
Efforts to repair, and in many cases rebuild, Bucha is underway after Russian forces destroyed houses, bridges, roads and government buildings.
